Wow. ?Those look really cool.
I do like the HG/Jovian Chronicles vehicle design system (even though it requires a pretty serious calculator for the cubes and cube roots). ?It even includes 'lemon' chances, makes even a mass-produced vehicle have it's own quirks. ?It's rarely something bad, just interesting. ?'Annoyance'-level flaws. ?
Just that nobody plays around here. ?Ah, well, I guess I'll buy up a force for both sides at some point in time, see if I can push it. ?Or maybe it'll be GearKrieg, since we're starting FoW.

The Heavy Gear rules (i.e. the silhouette system) were revised some time ago; I haven't taken a look yet even though you can get a pdf version quite cheaply (compared to the real deal + postage, that is).
I have the old Gear Krieg & all of the supplements. Nice idea and setting, although the older silhouette has a couple of glithces. One being that the damage of a gun is a direct function of the gun calibre. Thus a 105mm howizer is better tank killer than a 88.
Also, I never quite figured out the use of command points as presented in the basic rules. Basically you had to have the updated rules from the wargaming companion to make any sense of the system.
Thanks for the link to the Talon Games, Heresiarch! More food for my top secret DIY Slann mech project!

I have some of the Gear Krieg stuff. I liked the way they integrated the Gears into traditional forces, and didnt make the whole table gear-centric as is often the case with mech-combat systems (aka CBT)

Slann Mechs?
I look forward to seeing the results Mojarn!
And at the risk of stealing a little bit of Doug's thunder Talon also appears to be planning on doing a line of 6-8mm resin terrain as well. And if the preview pic of a bunker is anything to go by it should be pretty darn nice looking as well.

I have to through my 2 cents in....
I have a copy of the heavy gear rule book and the rules are very interesting. I have only played one game, but it was pretty fast paced and things died. Unlike Battletech which quick one shot kills are hard to come by. I guy at are club as been running HG games and I hope to learn more.
I am a long time Battle tech fan, but like anyhting you know well you r are very familar with the warts of your freinds.
For example I completely agree with Heresiarch concerning how the mechs "should" have looked. The CAV minisn are superior to the CBT ones in most cases. But at the same time I was very disapponited with Reaper that they decided to go to a 10MM scale for their minis. Thus if I brought Cav minis they would not work with the ton of 6mm terrian and other minis I had. I thought that was a bad decision on their part. I also found thier rule system a little weird.
The only problme with the heavy gear minis is the weapons. They look puny. But the Gear itself, especially the more streamlined ones, are very impressive.
There you go...

Don't hold your breath as I've tried to make a decent concept sketch of a Slann mech as well as of the Squat Ironhammer MBT for years. So far all my attempts at sketching have achieved is to have convinced me I'm about as far from Jes Goodwin and Mark Gibbons as can be. That and a big pile of wasted paper.
However, I have managed to agree with myself on certain basic principles of design.
1) The mechs should look vaguely Eldar-ish, but more archaic, pointing at the links between the races.
2) the shapes should borrow heavily from frogs and lizards rather than humanoids.
