Tas,

The new the starter box set with the plastic minis is a real bargin. ?You get 24 mechs in that box. ?Is that the one you got. ?

I'm a Davion fan, always have been, so I give a dirty look to your forth coming kurita force. ?:;):

For great pictures and schme ideas check out. ?

Camo Specs

Thats the one matey - just trying to spilt the mechs into 2 even forces now. ?
I got the new hardcover rulebbook too, which is a great product and a real labor of love by the authors.

Thats a great site. ?Ive always been a Davion man too, so happy to pass that to the next wargamer generation and in turn play the 'baddies'.   :p ?I'm going to have to go with the "evil" Sword of Light Regt and the menacing all-red look for my Kurita force...

...which I know L4 will not approve of! ?:D

Hi CC/Tas

I followed the link you gave earlier to Camo Specs and from there to Catalyst Games and Iron Wind Metals online store. I even found a link to a local(ish) supplier, ID Gaming, who are based in Ste Helens and I have bought from in past when closing sale for B5 ACTA. Also one of guys from local gaming club works nearby so I should nt have to pay postage. This could get dangerous.....
  :D
I have never played CBT but got interested in it from Wizkids clix game Mechwarrior. I played House Davion/Swordsworn, Houe Steiner/Stormhammers, Republic of the Sphere and Mercenaries (Kell Hounds/Wolfs Dragoons). I even bought the Federated Suns CBT sourcebook just to have some more detail behind my main faction.

I enjoyed Mechwarrior for a while but lost interest when following Topps takeover of Wizkids, the game seemed to be more based on what cards you had rather than what mechs- no surprise that Topps is a card manufacturer!!

From what I can see at Catalyst Games website there is a new CBT Intro Box Set and then also a Starter Book for Davion vs Kurita, and then more supplements including Total Warfare, Tech Manual. Do these replace the Fanpro books?

Then I have to decide what unit I would want to paint up. I could go for one of the myriad Davion units, or Mercenaries - either Wolfs Dragoons or more generic unit.

The Mechs I would like to get include Arbalest, Archer, Crimson Hawk, Battlemaster, Griffin, Jupiter, Longbow, Madcat rescuplt, Marauder II, Phoenixhawk, Rifleman, Templar, Thunderbolt, Warhammer IIc, Zeus-X.

It looks as if these are mainly Assualt/Heavy Mechs and that I have a bias towards the newer MWDA inspired sculpts.

Of the mechs I have listed would I have to go later than TRO 3025? I am thinking of the Zeus-X (which I much prefer visually to the original Zeus sculpt).

Of the Mechs I have listed I believe most of them can be taken by Davion- not sure about Arbalest/Jupiter/Madcat. Would I be better off making this a merc force or would that limit other of the above Mech options?

All of the above were chosen purely based on looks or liking them from MWDA. I have got no idea how good they are in CBT. It looks as if I have nt picked many of those Mechs that are in 24 Mech starter set. How effective would a force be comprising just some of the mechs I have chosen?

Thanks for any advice you can offer to prevent me starting in the wrong direction. I have downloaded the CBT quickstart rules to read at leisure.

Cheers

James

If you're interested in big stompy robot games, you may want to check out CAV by Reaper Miniatures.  It's a more abstract system than Battletech, but a model's performance degrades as it takes damage.  Plays much faster as well allowing for larger games in a reasonable amount of time.

Quickplay rules can be downloaded here.

wargame_insomniac,

I'm glad the links helped you out.

You know..

If you got into the battletech universe because of Mechwarrior why not play CBT rules in the Dark age time line. ?Maby of the mechs you described would not exists in the 3025 timeline. ?

The design rules allow you to make your own mechs and Irinwind metals are releasing more and more of the dark age mechs, vehicles, and battlearmor in the CBT scale (~6mm or ~ 1/285)

How is that for a thought?

Then you can play the factions you already enjoy. ?

I would also recommned.

Battle Corpt - CBT fiction

CBT official Website

Good luck

Thanks CC

I have already got those saved to my favourites. I have also found a couple of lists for Davion force lists CBT from forums as per the 3025 TRO and 3039 TRO. I have realised that Arbalest and Jupiter are nt likely to be included in Davion force-those will have to be deferred until a future Merc force.

As for most of the rest I have found out that they are mainly Unseens. The good news is that the Unseen's are included in new TRO 3039.

As TRO 3039 is the new list designed to work with new starter rules I will stick with that one.  From what I can gather it is mainly the 3025/3026 lists with only a few added variants. It is before the Clan reappearance so before all of new tech in the TRO 3050 book.

I have e-mailed the UK supplier to see if he has TRO 3039 in stokc. If so then I plan to order it, the Intro Rules and the Davion/Kuita starter scenario book, plus a couple of lance box sets. I have worked out a few extra light mechs to add in my second future order to reduce my initial bias to assault/heavy mechs.

Doing that will mean that I will be playing with the vast majority of mechs that I am familiar with from MWDA plus a couple of new ones such as Valkyrie. I am looking forward to being able to field Battlemaster, Griffin, Longbow, Marauder II, Phoenixhawk, Rifleman, Thunderbolt, & Warhammer IIc from Unseen list plus also Templar & Zeus.

In fact many of those mechs appeared in 2 or more of my MWDA forces so I guess firstly that Wizkids were reasonably realistic and accurate in what they gave the MWDA factions and that secondly I am fairly consistent in what I look for in a mech!!

I will probably be trading/swapping away the plastic mechs from intro box set or keep them in case fellow club members want to play withoujt having to buy figures.

Cheers

James

Well have fun buying.

My force is built around the Fedcom civil war time frame.

The war of 3039 is the last war before the Clans came on the scene is it is still mostly low tech.  Except for the advance mechs those B%$@%#ds from COMSTAR supplied to the snakes.

The inner sphere could have been ours (Fedcom) but no the Com geeks had to get invloved!

Hi CC

I thought the Fedcom Civil War was in 3062-3067? I have just been reading the Fanpro book CBT Field Manual Updates which I bought a few years back because it gave breakdown of the forces including Davion regiments.

Cheers

James

Hi

I now have a Company of Mechs ready to be assembled for the forces of House Davion. I went over to Id Gaming in St Helens yesterday. I was'nt able to get all of the Mechs I wanted, just what they had available on shelf.

Tempting though it was to get a load of Assault Mechs I tried to get  spread. So I have a Recon Lance (Valkyrie, Ostscout, Stinger, Wasp), a Fire Lance (Catapult, Griffon, Centurion & Uziel) and Command Lance (Battlemaster, Awesome, Zeus & Warhammer).

I also picked up the Total Warfare rulebook, the Sword & Dragon scenario book, and TRO 3050. Unfortunately they did nt have Intro box set or the TRO 3039. I will have to get them next time with my next re-inforcements.

Now I need to get my superglue and primer out...

Cheers

James
