I received my preview or "sample" order of the Baccus 6mm Sci Fi line on Saturday.  As it did not come with any confidentiality notice, I'm going to go ahead and give it a review, even though the line hasn't officially been released yet.

Infantry:  They are stockier and half a head taller than Epic Marines and Orks .  Oddly, they are the same height and similar build to plastic Marine Scouts.  Overall, workable with GZG, DRM, & Epic (still waiting on my first E/W figs, so I can't comment on them)  I received 2 identical strips, but each strip has 4 figs, each fig a different pose.  It's a bit difficult to tell what each is supposed to be doing and there is some mold alignment shift which I hope will be corrected before release.  I can't say that they offer anything that can't be found in a better fig from another range.

Walkers:  I received 2 different walkers.  Fairly clean sculpts with interesting design.  A bit less AT-ST than a Guard Sentinel and slightly larger(about 16mmH x 15mmW).  A little more ED-209 but with chicken legs.

Grav Vehicles:  There were 4 grav vehicles in the sample pack.  The largest is the one that you have all seen pictures of.  It looks as nice in person as in the photos.  Similar in quality to GZG, but with more style.  Longer than an Epic Chimera, but not as wide (15mm x 29mm).  I think scale wise, it would fit better with GZG or DRM than Epic.  Unfortunately some of the barrels are even thinner than they appear in the pictures.  There were more turrets than tanks.  Some had sturdier barrels and all were interesting, attactive designs.

One vehicle is clearly an APC with no turret.  Again, it looks very nice, being similar in quality to GZG, but with more "flavor".  A picture can be seen on the Baccus site in the news section.  It is close in size to an Epic Ork Buggy (12mm x 20mm).  It might funtion well as a small 2 man recon sled.  It is much closer to GHQ or CinC micro armor in size.

In fact, 3 of the 4 vehicles would probably fit well with the CinC Sci Fi line (just guessing as I haven't seen the Sci Fi line, only some micro armor).

The 2 remaining vehicles are turreted, but purpose is unknown.  They are between the large tank and the small APC in size(13mm x 23mm & 12mm x 23mm).  Quality isn't quite up to the first 2 vehicles & stylistically only a little better than Epic's old flat top Vindicator.

There was 1 flier/VTOL in the pack.  It is easily the nicest piece in the lot.  At least as well done as the large tank and very nice looking.  It is quite small though (19mm x 22mm).  Maybe a bit larger than a Marine Land Speeder.

Over all, I'd say these would fit well with GZG minis.  You would just have to find the right role for the smaller vehicles.  They may fit with the DRM line as well.

Some of the pieces are very appealing.  I'm certain I'll find a place for the large tanks, the apcs and especially the VTOls.  The walkers may have already found a home in my Xlan army :;): .

Yes, Baccus has put alot of effort into repairing and restoring the old molds from the Gladiator "HardKill" line.

It's turned out a solid product that will probably find a market with players not into Epic, DRM, & E/W.  It appears far superior to Irregulars Sci Fi line as well as the Dirtside line from GZG, and on par with the GZG Future Wars line.

I probably should have made it clear in my earlier post that all comparisons were to GZG's Future Wars line, not their Dirtside line.

From what the head honcho at Baccus has said, the first alien line will be Sci Fi Centuars.  This will add a very interesting new flavor to the available market.  I'm quite eager to see them.

Afraid not, the only info I got was a message he posted on the 6mm Sci Fi yahoo group.

He is very friendly and very helpful.  He does like to keep projects under wraps, but may be willing to give out this small detail if you ask nicely.

Since I rarely get to play and my opponent and I already know Epic:A, there isn't much point in us learning a new rule set.  So I look at other miniatures as a resource for building new Epic armies.  I might have to mix and match pieces from different races or even different companies to get the result I want.

As an example, my Xlan army* uses Kray infantry & skimmers, but Andy walkers (and walkers from any other game I can find).

At some point I'd like to design a "Lost Colony" army.  Humans that have just returned to Imperial Space from the other side of the galaxy, where they'd had well over 10,000 years to grow and prosper.  They haven't had contact with Terra since before the time of the Emporer and still had access to all the old Dark Age Technology.  They are far more advanced than the backward superstitious Imperials and use grav tanks and such.  They find they don't really get on very well with the Imperium.

Some of the Baccus line may fit perfectly in this army (with modified or different turrets).

*this is in no way meant to imply that my Xlan army is in anything like a playable state. :p
