Warseer Thread

I would guess that this is not good. I hate being the prophet of doom, but I wouldnt be surprised to see SG canned in the short term future.  :(

While it's good to see that GW is taking measures to be a leaner company by closing unprofitable stores and eliminating some back office (and hopefully redundant) staff, this probably is really bad news for Epic and SG games in general.

However, as I've stated before, regardless of it's official status with GW, I'll continue playing Epic.

I just hope that they re-release Epic Nid infantry before they can SG... either way, like D/S says, we'll carry on playing Epic regardless :;):

As a long term epic player all this means is I won't be buying more 'official' models and if my local store should be one to close this wouldn't be an issue at all.

SG is all but canned anyway.  Rumor has it GW has effectively pulled all development of new product from SG for the foreseeable future.

I think Jervis is nominally still assigned but in practice hasn't been seen in a couple years.  Andy has been pulled off to do things with the main studio as well.  The net result is ~1 part time employee, maybe 3/4 if you're feeling generous.

The stock price took a major overnight plunge, but it recovered quickly to a reduced but seemingly stable level.  That's not surprising - over-reaction, followed by the market adjusting to the consensus estimate on just how much the target earnings will actually be reduced.

Still, 75p on a 325p stock is a big hit.  There will be a lot of very unhappy stockholders.  I don't know if it will be enough to force any management changes, but it's something.

Does anyone know how this will affect Forgeworld?  Many have commented that they are most likely the only way Epic will survive in any long term way.  I'm just not familiar enough with their internal structure and business relationship with FW to be able to understand how that stock tanking will 'ripple'.

Eh, I don't know. It's not like canning SG will save them very much money  :D . I would have thought a product line that is promoted and supported by the customers would be quite cost-effective...

Given number of replacement parts SG has had to send out for epic (remember all those steam gargants missing bits!) I wonder how it is really doing?

Pleased to say I have only had to have one Avatar blister replaced so far though, out of dozens and dozens of SG purchases. :)

Wow ... how many times are we going to necro-post this ill wind ?!? G/W-S/G or what ever they are calling themselves now, I think it's a forgone conclusion - Epic is dead and or dying - we'll support it here along with other 6mmSFWG - DRM & E/W (which if you notice, are perfect "doppelgangers" for Epic, in many cases), as well as others like Baccus, GZG, OGRE, etc. will supply all our 6mm SFWG needs.  And it appears F/W will release some 6mm ...   And when both DRM & E/W release their rules ... who knows ?! I know I'm not completely satisfied with the E:A rules.  I'm glad C/S changed the name of this site to Tac Cmd from Epicomms ... When G/W-S/G no longer pretends to support Epic ... We'll have all the 6mm SFWG stuff available from all the sources mention above and more ... :)

Not good.

Maybe TacCom members from the UK, Specialist Games fans should organize a meeting with the GW board and convince them of the 'wrong' side of dropping SG.
They can make lots of money there with little investment!

If I was a billionare or millionare or some such I would definitely try and buy SG off of GW.

Though if some crazy person came up with some crazy hare brained scheme for taking over SG I would be in for sure.

I was just reading though all my old BFG mags last night and it reminded me of why I got into gaming in the first place.  The old magazines were cool.  Its like they were written by a bunch of your gamer mates that deticated their whole time to making cool gaming things for those unfortunate gamers who just don't have the time.  I ended up thinking up all sorts of new scenarios to play, barely resisted the temptation to buy some more ships and even started contemplating making a ship interior gaming table for 40K.

Looking though recent white dwarfs nothing has inspired me like that.  It all seems like a lame arsed attempt at selling me the newest product and oh look they played 6 practice games of the battle report untill the new release army won (just like it always does) with badly matched armies.  Instead of seeing cool creations of other gamers I notice that somone has taken a bunch of photos on a tripod moving the models between each and then photoshoped them so that the same model can occur three times in one unit.

I am actually happy that they aren't continuing to "develop" epic as a mainstream game and wrecking it by taking the current money making focus on everything rather than good gaming.

Ive got the rules and Ive got my armies and I am going to keep playing for as long as I want GWs continued support is irelevant to that.  I haven't actually found getting miniatures to play epic with a problem yet and I don't anticipate it to be a problem in the future.

I think its just going to be a change in the way things happen.  Big corporations wreck things but now hundreds of gamers around the world can all stay in contact and work together to develop cool games so we no longer need full time suport from other companies to produce games for us.  Everyone can just work together.

Hey, cheer up! I mean now they can't reduce the staff in the future anymore, right? Since you can't get below zero in headcount.

I think I just had a sargasm...

Hey,

I hope Warp Rift gives some of that BFG feeling back to you! And WR is certainly the place when you like to submit the scenarios and such!

cheers
