Probably the wrong place to say this, but I want to spread the good news.  I have converted a  40K/fanatsy player to epic:A.  :D

Got to know him over the medusa V campaign, found out that he prefered fantasy to 40K (like any sensible person).  Then I mentioned epic.

He said he had an army back home (he is a uni student), so I got together a pair of small forces and we had a quick game.  No objectibes just racticing the rules.

He loved it.  He is going home this week to pick up his army, and we can play down our local GW on vets nights, then the real converting begins

Glad to hear that you were able to enlighten a 40k player. Good job of preaching "The Word."  :D

A Better "Word" would have been to convert him to NetEpic instead, but E:A is a good start  :p

Kortin, anything in the 6mm universe is a good place to start.

However my plan on converting the masses has hit a snag. ?A blue shirt at the store said we could play epic on vets nights, but now the store manager says no specialist games at all, after I asked about playing a game of =][=.

His reason. ?It will distract the other players (lookie a better game!) and he can't answer costomer quesions that well on the SG range.

Time for coersion I think.

ragnarok: That's lame!

Thank heavens my local GW manager's quite happy to see non-core games played in the store.

his other excuse is that there is a very decent gaming club nearby.

I think I'm going to have to pull out such cards as

It will take me an hour to get home from there
&
Some of the people who want to play are to young to go to the club.

Failing that I could use a big stick....

I can think of many expletives to call this manager, but I'll keep it clean and call him a jerk.    When will GW, if ever, end this silly division of its own games.

The store manager is actually a nice guy.  I think he is worried about theconfusion that bringing such great games will cause.  With lots of people crowding round a single table babbling on and cluttering the place up.

Also I think he is worried that lots of the older regulars (who like myself don't want to go to the club and prefer the store) will start spending more money on SG models rather than core games, and this will decrease the stores sales, since it will go though mail order.  I can see it now

line manager: Why are your sales down?
store manager: Beacuse everyone is buying SGs.
LM: Why?
SM:Well you see a few of the vets played a game of epic and everyone wanted an army
LM: So you admit it was your fault
SM: But they are spending more on epic than they ever did on 40K
LM: I don't believe you, your sales are down
SM: That is because they have to go though mail order
LM: Don't blame the trolls for your mistake

and so on

I think I need therapy to deal with my hatred or management and my belief that all managers are stupid.

In that case, I take back what I said about him, but the question still remains, when will the beancounters at GW realize that money spent on SG games is still money in GW's coffers? I can't be the only person getting tired of this asinine division of games.

I?m not sure on this but can?t stores order stuff from mail order, saving you on the p&p?  Now if that?s the case, then I see this as an opportunity for the manager to boost sales.

I may be completely wrong about that ordering thing though.

I've heard that some stores do it, some don't. It seems like it might be up to the manager's discretion. I would ask him. What do you have to lose?  :;):  As you said, this could be an opportunity for him actually to increase sells.

I think that anything that you order though mail order counts as a mail order slae, even if it is done in store.

When I brought my cities of death box set they didn't have any instore (I arrived after 10 on the first day they were being sold :D ) so they did a mail order for me.  However the staffer mumbled something about putting it though as a sale (he even scanned one of the resevered boxes) rather than a mail order, because it made their sales look better.

I did wonder if they might count as mail order sales and whilst it doens't surprise me, I have to say I don't think that's fair.  Where's the incentive for staff to flog stuff that the store doesn't hold?
