As seen in this thread on the SG site:

http://www.specialist-games.com/forum/t ... IC_ID=6306

It looks like we'll be getting an Epic scale Thunderhawk from Forge World.

Not too hot on the Arvus Lighter but maybe that's just me. I'd rather see something released for another race than IG...

I must admit that neither of these interests me a lot. The SG Thunderhawk is one of the best GW aircraft out there, and actually seems to be in size. So, the FW version may be a little larger, but aside from that I dont see much of an advantage to it.

The Arvus, I will leave, thanks. Yuk! And it still looks like the wings should flap!

Heh I like the Arvuss! Looks like a shuttle from Star Trek of Star Ship troopers or something...

Thunderhawk isnice too, though I don't really need anymore.

If FW did a Thunderhawk Annhiliator that would be good. But otherwise I don't see the point in FW doing a model that Sg already does and doea well.

The Arvus would be nice- as in pick up a single packet to use for scenarios etc. But given that supposed to be unarmoured & capable of carrying only 10 Imperial Guardsmen I can't see it being of much use as a game winning tactic.

But if you have to rescue a local Adeptus Ministorum dignatory that would be cool.

Cheers

James

Yeah. From a marketing standpoint the Arvus makes very little sense. Exactly how many of these do they expect the average Epic buyer to get compared to more common units such as Chimeras, Russes or Basilisks?

Personally I prefer the SG Thunderhawk as well. Although the wings are somewhat fat I just like the overall shape better. The FW version is a bit boxy for my taste.

Well the SG one is based on the original FW kit, the new one is based on the new FW one.

But I agree, the old one is the bees knees :)

Well, I think that this is good news in the sense that FW is actually making an effort to make models for Epic. Also, for those crazy people that use the jumbo-sized FW aircraft, now their T-hawks won't look out of place.

I'll also use this as an opportunity to state my theory that FW has no logical business plan whatsoever. As proof, I point to the epic scale Arvus Lighter. Basically what FW has done is to make a useless epic-scale model based on a useless 40k-scale model. Even an epic-scale version of the Aquilla lander would have been better, as at least that has a marginally interesting design.

Still, there are people out there that buy model kits of things like the "work-bee" from Star Trek: TMP, or the moon base from Space:1999, so maybe there's more market than I think. Maybe the FW sculptors make things like the Arvus as practice, to maintain their 1337 skilz, or whatever.

While I applaud FW's efforts in producing epic minis, why are they wasting their resources on something SG already producesm, especially when SG's is better? ???

I do like the Arvus. I could see myself picking up five of them to have an airlifted guard detachment, but I can't see myself buying a horde of them. Gamewise, however, is doesn't make too much marketing sense.

Another explaination for the new T-hawk might be that before the restructuring, SG planned on making a new T-hawk model (this is true, as far as I can remember). Now, knowing that the new Eldar superheavies were sculpted by one of the FW guys, maybe the T-hawk was farmed out to FW, too. Then, after the restructuring, the FW guys just went ahead and made it anyway.

It's just a theory, but it seems to fit with how things "work" at FW.

BTW, rumor has it that FW has started work on a 40k Reaver. I figure that it will be a new design (loosely based on both the original and the Epic-scale FW one) My guess is that after it is done, they'll do a matching oine for Epic. If all that is true, it gives me hope that they will eventually do a phantom/warlock titan as well.

That's certainly a possibility.
As a side note: Does anyone know if the original metal 40k scale Thunderhawks have ever been on Ebay? The ones which were featured in WD many years ago when GW decided to paint up an entire Ultramarines chapter?

The Reaver titan is possibly the best Epic model ever! Not many GW models have been on the market for close to two decades without a remake. If FW decided to redo the Reaver they'd be facing quite a challenge: Not just the practical problems with doing 40k scale titans but also to improve an already outstanding design shoold they do an Epic version. The current Lucius pattern Reaver doesn't do much for me so I'd definitely like to see something along the style of the Mars Pattern Warhound.

Rather than new versions of the Imperial or Eldar titans (which I think are pretty good as they are) I'd really like to see some Epic Tyranid titans, Chaos titan (or just conversion kits)  and possibly a new Gargant.

Supposedly, the reason they haven't done a gargant yet is because they can't figure out how to design it so that it looks like it could actually walk but still look (roughly) like a gargant.

I'll agree that the Reaver is one of the best ever. The Lucius pattern Reaver doesn't do anything for me either. I'd love to see a Choas titan. A new gargant might be nice, also.

Unless of course SG will no longer be producing them...

Just a thought anyways...

I actually quite like the Thunderhawk, I find the SG one far too small and spindly for my liking. It's okay, but it just doesn't look good landed near other troops.

As for the 40K Reaver, it's about time! I just can't understand why they haven't done it already. They do these 700-quid terrain sets, and I for one could never justify buying one. A Reaver Battle Titan, on the other hand - well, I've already got one of the Armorcast ones :D . It just makes sense! There's got to be so many people that would never consider buying such an expensive model normally, but...
