Welcome to the latest Forge World newsletter folks. As we had hoped, today?s newsletter is packed full of Elysian Drop Troop squads.
Okay then, first under scrutiny is the Elysian Drop Troop Command Squad. http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/elyspcomm.htm One of the first things you might notice is the Officer. As Elysians usually deploy right into the middle of a fire-fight, a flamboyantly obvious officer was found to have the life expectancy of a snowflake in a blast furnace! This Elysian Officer is equipped with a monocular, (a small telescope), giving him a better view of the immediate battlefield and the information he needs to direct the other units under his command. An Imperial Guard Officer often issues orders by shouting, but the noise of battle, distance between units etc, dictates the inclusion of a Vox-caster in his Command Squad if he wants to retain effective control of his forces. A Command Squad is the brain of the platoon and so one veteran in the squad is often trained as a Medic. His job is quite simple, keep the brain alive! Of course a Command Squad is still expected to fight and can provide valuable supporting fire to either bolster a wavering unit or to reinforce a successful breakthrough. In this set we have included a Drop Trooper armed with a Meltagun. Despite this being classified as a ?light? support weapon, the Meltagun is still damned heavy as you can clearly see! Hence the decision to fit a bipod to the gun, allowing the Drop Trooper the option of taking cover and targeting properly.
One of the options an Elysian Drop Troop Command Platoon can take is up to two Special Weapon Support Squads. http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/elyssnipe.htm We have equipped this squad with three Sniper rifles, special long-barrelled variants of the Elysian bull-pup lasguns which are upgraded with targeting ?scopes and foldable bipods. The other three Elysians have each got monocular and would use these to find the next target for their sniper partner, giving them covering fire with their regular lasguns too. It is possible that when you assemble some of the Snipers the grav-chutes might not fit perfectly. After all, Imperial Guard doctrine states grav-chutes are meant to be jettisoned after landing, so if you choose the squad with grav-chutes, it?s up to you whether you fit them or not.
Heavy weapons are very important in an airborne assault due to the probable lack of artillery and armour support. The Elysians simply drop their heavy weapon platoons along with their infantry using grav-chutes or deploy them in the second wave from Valkyries. http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/elysmort.htm So they can lay down as heavy a barrage as possible, the Elysians are often equipped with a magazine-fed mortar. Each drum of ammunition holds five rounds which could be fired off very rapidly to blast an area clear, or even a mix of shells so that requests for smoke cover and fire support can both be quickly fulfilled.
All three of these new Elysian Drop Troop squads are available to pre-order now at http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/acatalo....11.html either with or without their grav-chutes, depending on your own personal taste. We will start sending these orders out from the 14th of March in the same order that we receive them.
Lots of people join the Forge World Newsletter every day, so those people who may not have seen them yet and for a sense of completeness, here are the links to the original Elysian Drop Troop Squads which are also available to pre-order for release on the 28th of February. http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/elys1chutes.htm http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/elys1.htm
