Quote (ruiza97 @ 30 2004 Nov.,01:14) | How about this for an idea, SG releases the infantry in plastic form and leaves the vehicles to FW. ?That way they can release Tau infantry, at a much cheaper price than FW resin infantry, and with the already made FW vehicles, they can say you have a new army for Epic. ?Do the same for Necrons and SG can stick to their time table and still only have to release a few minis to make a new army.

It will never happen. The cost of producing high temperature, high pressure steel injection moulds for plastics is way too prohibitive. Particularly for high quality hard plastic micro miniatures. ?As an ex production manger for matchbox toys, I can safely say the pay back numbers for such an investment is in the region of 10,000 plus shots. As I said it will never happen.

Hi!
By the way, when will you be at 1 Million?
|
I think it will take 3-4 years at my current rate.

| OK, so let's see. In about Jan. of 2003 I returned to Epic with less then 1,000 points. It took over a year to hit 20,000 and another 8 months to hit 45,000.
At that rate I will take 37 (almost 38) years to hit 1 million points. ? ? ?
2042. Long way off. How old will I be? ?
Got to have something to live for. ?

Isn't the current infantry for IG, SM, and Ork armies plastic? Or are they lead minis?

Adrian | My understanding is they are using molds they had modified for about 5000 pounds. They said they would not spend the money to have new Epic plastic molds made.

Yep, the old Ork, IG and Marine sprues were recut to remove certain bits, and add more of others- to have a compeltely new mould made for each army would have cost tens, if not hundreds of thousands of ?s...

Hi!
I always thought that if they just produced the old stuff, molds they already have and paid for, that would be more than enough to keep epic going for a long time.

Primarch | The wear rate on these type of moulds are is a result of the high pressure and temperatures involved also very high. Refurbishing old , tired moulds is also one hell of a cost.

Hi!
How much of a cost as compared to making new ones?
How "worn" can epic 40k era molds be taking into account thatthe game did poorly and sales weren't stellar?
They seem to always say the molds are worn. I can beleive that from molds from the SM2/TL days, that game sold a lot and a lot was asked from those molds...
..but epic 40k molds?
Somewhat hard to swallow that they are that "worn"....

Well I said new minis for Tau and Necrons and when they finally get around to releasing the minis for those armies, they are all going to be new anyways. Thus, GW releases the infantry as part of their 2-3 minis they release in one year and allow FW to cast the vehicles. And what do you get? Tada!! A new army.
