GW announced the return of space dwarves on the ideal day last Friday, and the next day confirmed that it wasn't [just] an April Fools Day prank.

Today Warhammer Community posted an unusually thorough article on the history and background of the Squats, both in terms of game lore and in terms of models.

I was surprised that the article went into the Squat background in Epic with as much depth as it did, because I don't recall GW ever mentioning Epic back when they reintroduced knights into 40k.

Anyway, I just though it was an interesting bit of news.

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised to the Epic references!

I wish they had continued with the Demi-urg name and theme from BFG and blended in more old school Squat stuff as opposed to a whole new make-over. But I will reserve judgement until I see more ..

I think that Epic was the closest that GW ever got to working the 'Space Dwarfs' into the theme of 40K. Its where they were the most distinct from other forces, while Knights have had much more of an existence beyond their introduction with Epic and have been more folded into the core 40K background and lore.

I admit that I am very skeptical about the LoV right now. The mini just doesn't say 'Space Dwarf' to me and I wouldn't have made that connection if it was just the picture with no text.... but then maybe that's exactly the point, a fresh perspective. Its something to watch with interest, to be sure.

it has a lot of the visual themes we saw in BSF. Also it may be a counter to the mantic space dwarves but going in a distinct route. also I won't discount that it could be a specific reimagined unit from the old times and more stuff will come to add variety. or not and we have a new take on things. regardless it seems hooligan bikers in space is not the take in 40k for them going forward. I do wonder about what vehicles we get for them eventually though.

As to Demiurg I hope that we see that's retcon to a specific space faring league. Just because I really like the vessels.
