Epic still in with significantly more then 10% (of 2000 surveyed) playing !

I was quite surprised. Good news for the other 6mm manufacturers out there ! :)

I assume Epic 40,000 is a mistake, with the survey authors not familiar with Armageddon.

Good to see Epic is played more than Lord of the Rings.

I'm impressed Battletech is still beating Flames of War. Nice.

All the SG wargames in that survey are played by more people than LoTR! Eat it GW!

if that extrapolated upwards to their entire customer base it would be very interesting and GW would have quite the significant amount of egg on their faces, however the LOTR franchise isn't solely about making money, it's about attracting people into a GW store, kid comes in because he loved LOTR (or these days, the Hobbit) buys the game, then a few weeks later is strongarmed into picking up £350 worth of space marines.....

Interesting though I would say it seems massively skewed by it taking place on a veteran populated gw/sci-fi/fantasy dominated board. I would be hugely surprised if the big 4 wasn't 40k, WM, WFB and FOW in that order based on sales figures I've seen posted.
Also I think it would be very different in the UK

Sales figures =/= what people say they play*, but you've got a point in that it's biased toward GW SF gamers due to where it was advertised.

*I'm a case in point - my Epic gaming wouldn't show up anywhere as sales because I don't buy anything for it. Likewise, going back a couple of years when I still played 40k - I played every week without fail but the only purchases were codices, sometimes a pot of paint and the occasional tournament ticket.

I agree with Steve, the figures are obviously very skewed. No way Epic has more players than LOTR, that's just silly talk.

Can't see the top 4 changing much in the UK, unless you think LoTR was moved ahead of FOW?

Though the UK lacks a central forum with the density of BoLS or Warseer to make such a survey worthwhile.

I don't know about that. I can't remember the last time I saw someone play LotR.

I'm also sceptical about the results.

2000 isn't all that large a sample size in terms of gamers across the US I wouldn't have thought, and quantitative data is so heavily skewed by how the questions are constructed that I rarely have much confidence in it.

2000 respondents would be statistically significant, if it was an unbiased population. Unfortunately it's biased since its posted on a website that is mostly Sci fi and 40k focused.

I'm sure the exact same study would get a completely different result if it was posted on a flames of war website.
