I think this is fairly old news, no?

Sales have slipped a bit, causing profits to drop sharply.

Which in turn, caused GW to cancel some of their less popular models... like a few BFG ships, and all of the Battle of Five Armies metal models...

Hi!

I just like to see how they "spin" three years of declining sales and profit.

I just wish someone bought them out.

Less popular?

Attending several forums shows that Necrons and Space Marines are quite popular. Especially by people who venture outside of 40k.

Now they dropped the Space Marine escorts and the Necron escorts. I call that killing two fleets.

Now lets just keep up the hope they are repackaging single sold escorts into packs of three.

I think that it shows that the UK is holding up its end and that the rest of the world needs to start buying more. Come on guys we can't do this alone :;):

Wow, that is interesting. Have to try and get few bottles of that... Not much used color, but when I want it I dont want to mix it (anybody have recipe for how to make tentacle pink?).

As soon as I found out, I tried to buy in a few bottles, until I found out a staffer had brought the entire stores supply!

We found it strange how the big hats at GW central decided that the colour of one of the fab four wasn't moving well enough to continue being stocked.

No I think not, buy less and let someone else buy them out. Anyone is better than this. Someone who knows and understands their customers. I remeber the late 80s early 90s and GW need to go back to these days. More offerings is better. The mature gamer, the person to whom gaming is their primary Hobby plays a number of games. GW should ensure that its all GW games by appealing to their different requirements. Does anyone really believe acpocolipse will be big?

I was always a defender of GW through thinck and thin. But the removal of components from their website was the last straw.

It was very big, for a few months.

And that is why they fail

Everything they do is geared towards the minority.
Apocolipse was a flash in the pan. At the end of the day how many gamers can afford to invest the kind of money necessary to play this game.
Epic Apocolypse with full support, maybe including rules for BFG in the one suppliment and a compaign system like mighty empires for merging 40k, epic and BFG would have been a better idea.
A new epic system fully supported and launched with new models at a level affordable to all gamers would have been better.
They need to look at the long run and the gamers needs.

Tamiya makes a pink that I think is a good replacement. When I saw the jar sitting in the display of Tamiya paint, my first thought was, "Wow, that's pink!" My second thought was, "Good for Slaanesh minis!"

Warlock purple and white looks ok (though I have no idea if GW actually makes a color close to my old hexagonal fliptop Warlorck Purple from the mid 90ies :p)

I think most people would agree that while Apocalypse is a great idea looks-wise the scale, time and economic investment required to make anything interesting is beyond affordability for the teenage target consumers GW has been aiming their marketing at for the last decade or so.

Computer games also play a large part, which is also why I doubt GW can ever go back to how it was in the early 90ies.

All their downsizing looks more and more like they're sawing away the branch they're sitting on I'm afraid.

I think the cutback of dedicated stores was a good move. Instead they should focus more on independant retailers carrying their products. If people want to play their games they'll find places to do so. Most other manufacturers do this quite successfully.

Instead of catering for a teenage audience in that little marketing bubble that is your average GW store, I think GWs (talented) game developers should focus on making games they themselves would want to play. If a teenager wants to play that game he will do so, even if the rules are slightly complicated.
I think this is what Jervis did with E:A and what makes the game so tough to kill in spite of non existant marketing and store visibility.

GW has an awsome fluff background for their games, they still produce some of the most beautiful miniatures in the industry (especially if you count FW). If people have an interest i these things they'll buy it even if they're not constantly hasseled by a guy in a red shirt. Use the money for his payroll to develop better rules and lower the price to get into the games.

When you consider that everything in the SG range totals a small percentage of 40k SM sales then yes... you can say "less popular" for sure.

We may not like it but that is the reality of the situation.

Take a sample of it to a local home renovation store and have them colour match it for you and mix up a batch.

Frankly you can get a couple of pints that way for the cost of about 3 bottles of paint from GW and you won't be able to tell the difference colour wise.
