If I show up to a game, with my lovingly tended-to team from previous versions, my ruler won't work with a new board and a new ruler won't work with an old board and it seems just -petty- to change that factor. The group I used to play in didn't like to share dice, range rulers or other tokens, so maybe the Blood Bowl issues are unique to me. It feels like they're changing just enough to require someone get a whole box for one or two updated bits. Someone can teach me the new rules, I can use my own team, but the known incompatibility of the accessories just reminds me that they can, will and DO arbitrarily change things for no positive reason beyond 'buy this new thing'.
I realise they want to sell stuff, but I'd have been more inclined to want to buy the new box [of a game that I absolutely love] if it didn't feel like they were trying so hard by tweaking trivial stuff to make it unusable.
To be honest, it's less a "Blood Bowl sucks because..." issue, and far more a case of cumulative weariness from most things from Age of Sigmar to date. They've worn down my patience and increasingly remind me that I'm not the intended audience any more. Ah well, at least Dropfleet Commander ships this month!
Hi!
This thread still alive? Sheesh...
GW is about one thing and one thing only. Money.
That is neither a bad thing or an intrinsically faulty pursuit for a company to have.
GW's problem is that they haven't had a truly forward thinking business plan is at least a decade.
Instead of looking at their IP and figuring out an innovative way to exploit it, all they do is rehash the same old thing where they change it just enough to make the previous version, if not incompatible, at least annoying to use.
There is no reason to do an AT rehash in 8mm. Unless its to make sure your 6mm looks "funny" when using it against 8mm.
There is no reason to change the pitch in BB, unless you want to make sure its inconvenient enough to make players get the new one.
Of late GW seems to have been trying to revert many of the old trends. Trying to actually listen and perhaps address some of its many concerns.
This doesn't erase however the many years of "crap" preceding the current "change of heart".
In my case its been 20 years since I haven't given them the time of day.
Releasing a titan on titan game with rules similar to what I already own (AT1) with models in a different scale isn't gaining them any traction from me.
Release a FULL epic line that is compatible with the previous stuff and THEN, I'll pay attention.
All else is just noise.
