Ha, Maybe this is in response to seeing how much money DragonHoardWargames/WarlordsOfTheCoast is making selling re-casts of Epic and Necromunda on eBay!

GW thinking they might be able to cut in on that action :P

All in all, if this is legit it won't mean much for me (as a Netepic guy rather than EA) but if it means new sculpts and spinning up the old casts too at a reasonable price then cool!

Standing by, Salt pinched.

Excited for new (tho probably terrily overpriced) models

Deeply unexcited for new (probably terrible) rules

We may want to take advantage of this as a community tho - make a real effort to direct newbies towards Taccoms and the Epic UK / NetEA scene, because they can be quite tricky to find and we don't want to miss out on newbies or people re-excited to play by the announcement

I have the general feeling that there's a real memo about a new "special product design studio" spinning up and this store manager equated that with Specialist Games and threw this quick announcement up on FB (which they admitted was made in store). More likely they've got a place for one off things from the studio to live under direct sales than any product relaunch, but hey, I've been wrong before.

I think has been gaining ground because a lot of the GW stores in Australia have been posting the news and all saying its true

Make of that what you will

Like others, on the one hand intrigued and excited over the prospect of new models on the other hand, worried that GW will wreck the rules and divide the community.

<WARNING! Wish full thinking and naive worldview incomming>

Maybe... just maybe... we could as a community reach out to the new division at GW (if it comes) and ask if they want to borrow/licence (for free) rules that fit their (hopefully comming) 6mm range, and that are well tested and balanced.

That way they don't need to create any rules (they are a miniature company not a rule making company) and we get new minis.

<WARNING! Wish full thinking and naive worldview ending>

Ummmm you mean rules they already own (as derivative works). Or were you referring to another system that we own that I'm unaware of?

If they were smart they'd just post up the last edition pdfs and BAM. Done.

I was thinking about the NetEA rules.

Well.. as you can't copyright rules, and they have been corrected/updated, I just don't think GW can write rules that are better than the once we already have.

I don't see any negative things in this. Only opportunities and growrh of 6mm player base. Everyone can use whatever rules they want.

Corran, I think that Jimmy is correct - we have been at considerable pains not to change the wording of the rules, rather to maintain / enhance the FAQ that were agreed back in 2008 and 2010.
Note, the use of the many and various army lists is a completely different thing! Apart from the core lists, these have all been created (and thus 'owned') by us! ;)

We might also hope that in the long term, communication channels might be set up between the GW group and the fans probably via the ERC (as was the case originally). However I also agree that issues would inevitably arise where GW want to tie in the 6mm models with their core 40K counterparts :o , though this would not be new to us . . . ::)

However, like the others, I will be treating this as just wishfull thinking, way past the point where GW actually set up something. It will only be 'real' when it has been running for 6 months! (and like others I think there is less than a 50:50 chance that we will like the end result :D )

The only thing that makes me think this isn't a hoax or prank is the online release of Warhammer 8th ebook by black library :

http://www.blacklibrary.com/Warhammer/w ... ebook.html

Perhaps someone at gdub has realised that dreadball, dropzone, infinity, drop fleet, Kings of war, etc etc are sucking up gaming niches which they already have product sitting on a shelf somewhere. With limited input and cost they can put up their old books for digital sale and keep people in the gdub fold. Can't see they will be releasing minis (virtually all their in house production has gone plastic now ) certainly not new sculpts anyway - unless fw are expecting slack now heresy is going plastic too...

Yeah those are still GW IP. You're absolutely incorrect that you can't copyright rules. You can, just open any rulebook and read the legalese inside. What you CANNOT copyright is MECHANICS. The NetEA rules (which actually don't exist, there's an FAQ incorporated copy of the GW text however which is what I'm sure you're meaning) are 100% derivative works. The closest thing to what you are referring to in practice would be the Exodus Wars rules which used a clean room approach to a highly similar set of game mechanics (but of course those expression of mechanics themselves are in turn have copyright exclusive to SCP).

Well, I really hope this happens. I admired what Jervis tried to do with Specialist Games, but I just saw flaws in his approach, and to be honest, he seems more game designer than product development/marketing/CEO.

I know you EpicA fans will spit your coffee out reading this, but I honestly think the game rules will be changed and will need to be. Given how long ago the rules were written, I imagine game developers are constantly trying to develop the next creative game system admired by all, and I imagine Jervis would have a whole host of new ideas to implement. And if it isn't Jervis running the show, then I imagine whoever is will want to put their own stamp on things.

Plus lets be honest, the setting of Armageddon is so recycled it makes me want to puke, and the art in the book was terrible even for the time it was released. So you just couldn't re-print EA as it is and have hope for success. Not to mention new models will be made, and their images and so on would have to be included. So I am thinking that after 4 editions of Epic, this would be a 5th, as opposed to being a 4.1.

And god I hope its released as an intro box set with two armies.

LOTR crashing and burning is really the best thing that could have happened to us. If all this is true, then GW is going back to its roots and producing themes that we grew up loving, and hoping it does the same for a new generation of fans. And with everything being plastic these days, and the speed and sometimes subtle variations of the minis, there is no doubt it would be reasonable to assume it would be easy and now cost effective for them to produce everything in plastic now. We might be limited in the range of minis, but the core ones can be done.

I just hope they make a real effort with titans again. New plastic titans with multiple weapon options would be amazing. Actually, with the Horus Heresy getting so much attention in recent years, if they went back to Marine vs Marine and Warlords vs Warlords, I would crap in my pants. But seeing anything would make me happy I guess.

Just be ready to cringe. new Epic wont be cheap.

Rich Little's head in a jar, impersonating Howard Cosell, sums it up for me:
