I remember that post as well.  I figured he had just mixed up Nashville and Memphis but I also figured it was probably bogus.

I spoke with my friend who runs the Memphis Battle Bunker and it turns out that it really was in the planning stages back around November.  Dates and such weren't firmed up until about 2 weeks ago and they just haven't gotten any promo stuff out yet.  He assumed that the Bunkers hosting the other SG tourneys would be getting stuff out soon as well.

Who knows?  If the guy had that right, maybe his source had other things correct as well.  Not holding my breath, but it's possible.

I exchanged emails with Greg.  It seems that he is expecting some of the Houston crowd and possibly a few other long distance travellers as well.  As it is, I almost certainly won't make it.  There's an academic conference that weekend and unless I'm sorely mistaken, I will get an invitation to present shortly.

Greg and I discussed that we would both like the Handbook rules (or minor mods thereto) to be used for the tourney.  I don't know what will fly at the Bunker, though.  I suspect that it will be largely dependent on the response.  If there is a fair number of travelling players it will almost certainly be official rules (barring the ridiculously small chance of a real rule up date between now and then).

He has been playing and running events regularly all along.  The Memphis guys play regularly.  Once or twice per month they'll descend on the Bunker and have enough people for 2-3 tables, plus regular single games.

They run a couple of tourneys each year, the last being their "Titan Wonderland" event back in December (iirc - 1500 points, 50+% titans, snowy terrain, Christmas presents for objectives).  They usually run an "Ides of March" tournament in the spring but last year was the big April tourney and this year will, obviously, be the championship.  Once or twice a year they'll also have some sort of "Epic Day" mini-event that might be a big scenario or just several games back to back.

They've also been running the occasional AI, Warmaster/WMA, or Flames of War event.

There has been no lack of gaming.  I'm actually quite jealous.

As much as I'd like to make it to Nashville (it has been 14 years) I'd probably go to Memphis regardless.  The only way I can afford this is to jumpseat on one of the FedEx planes but I believe all jumpseats are still business travel only. :(

I'm trying to convince my wife we can afford to send me to the Epic tournament in Chicago. :)

Anyone else have eyes on showing up?

One of the guys I play with is from Chicago.  We've been discussing Adepticon in April but I also have some family obligations that will take me out of town right about the same time.  Back to back trips would be pretty tough.

It is a positive step, and perhaps something we can reinforce ourselves.

How about we try to get a US wide Epic weekend set up, either that weekend, for those unable to make it to this tournament, or at another weekend, maybe a month later. Try to get space at any store that sells GW, A GW store a local trader, whereever, and see if we can push this puppy again.

DS, think you would like to arrange a tournament for the East Coast again? I have no time to organize one again but I would certainly attend.  It would save me some money too instead of going to Chicago or Memphis.  I bet I could convince ePilgrim to attend.

Or maybe we can get Lord Inquisitor to arrange one for the DC area... :)  (Do you like how I am making more work for everyone?)
