Anyway, I reckon they'll be keen to keep what's left of the GW faithful on-board

What on earth makes you think that? They have all but stated outright that they only care about new recruits and actively drive away veteran gamers.

I suppose it's pure guessing at this point. Dreadfleet and Space Hulk were not really released into active communities, so the lack of impact there is maybe not applicable to epic.

Speaking of guessing, what will be the order of priorities? What games will they attempt to revive first? I would hazard BFG. Easy to "do a Dreadfleet" on that one. Plus it would capitalize on the very successful Dropfleet-commander Kickstarter

BFG to tie in with computer game, blood bowl because it's easy and works well as a single box format, would be my guesses.

They should do warmaster to tie in with total war … but I assume they can't now release non-AoS warmaster minis, so a bit stuck there.

I'd put money on them rushing out a version of gothic to torpedo the release of dfc (horse, gate, bolted?) I think it's not a coincidence they timed the release of calth (and trailed it so long in advance) to coincide with the release of (Rick Priestleys) Beyond the Gates of somewhere or other. Just as they timed dreadfleet to scupper the 2nd ed of uncharted seas from Spartan.

Ruthless yes, but not dumb. The reason generally stated for the cull of epic was that it takes sales from 40k. Therefore I highly doubt they would release a whole epic range at 10mm - the effect would be even worse, particularly as people are already playing 40k at 6mm.

If any thing epic is done they will concentrate on stuff that is not covered by their main 40k range - my bet is Titans as only trust fund kids can afford the 40k versions - why not capitalise on the design work already investing by releasing them small for joe public, coz the fanatics will still splash out on the big versions. But I'm sure they will stick to 6mm (or maybe even smaller) to avoid devaluing the 28mm versions.

That said, they have had 4 opportunities to rescale epic in the past - not sure why they would now? Anything they release will blow the quality barrier of their old stuff on eBay meaning the shiney-factor would drive sales and they know it wouldn't stop the forum wear as they know it's mostly CAD and could be rescaled anyway.

As I understand it FW are now responsible for SG

A lot of people seem to be jumping to that conclusion. The initial Facebook post said that the new Specialist Design Studio would "include" forgeworld. As I have said before, that could mean that forgeworld is being expanded to encompass the specialist games. It could also mean that the new division is going to be put in charge of FW, making it more in line with the primary design studio.

We just don't know yet. And probably won't know for several years until we can get a good idea of the new studio' spatters of behavior.

So, hopefully sometime next year

I'd expect a longer time frame if anything does happen. Adverts for the posts involved have just gone up on the GW site. It sounds to me like a decision has recently been made which has leaked out before they were ready. The whole project is just at the setting up stage.

looking at the job descriptions, AT is specifically mentioned:
Quote:
Do you want to be responsible for designing and developing an exciting new range specialist games and models including reimagining some of the old favourites such as Blood Bowl, Battlefleet Gothic and Adeptus Titanicus?

So a titan game seems probable

It would be the way to go reducing costs. Also possibly the best outcome for EA - nice new shiny titans+interest in Epic without messing with the EA rules

All they have done is restructure the company slightly in line with the CEOs thoughts. The bit of GW that designed one box games has been put in the same business unit as forge world, and maybe expanded a bit. Box sets for the old games were always on the cards, it's just that this unit now has a similar name to the old SG unit and they've been more explicit about what they will be.

As I've said before when this stuff has been discussed in the past, my personal expectation is that it will be a boxed game more like AT, which would be much easier to do than the massive range of models needed for a good infantry and vehicles game (and the models could be more impressive) - think dreadfleet, a small number of different individual models, or like BFG with heavily customisable build options. If you think about it, it would also be relatively easy to do expansion sets if they wanted to later (ie new races or additional titan types). If that job ad is any indication then this seems even more likely. In that context I'm not sure it would be heresy

Not sure however which game would come first, you might say BFG is the best candidate because of DFC, X wing etc but that could also be a reason to wait a while. Blood bowl somehow doesn't seem very "modern GW" but who's to know?

Rumour has it that a four team blood bowl boxset was finished some time ago, just awaiting manufacture. If so, my guess is it was not released due to the failure of dreadfleet. I guess that will be first, once this new team as removed dreadfleet style flaws and added some forgeworld style class.

The only thing I can say is why make an announcement ( and get everyone excited) if they don't have anything to release in the next year? Everyone would soon forget about this new division and go on to another shiny product.
