Firstly, I appreciate the feedback and comments on the thread concerning the changes to this site, it has all been very helpful. While it seems to have been ignored recently, I have been thinking about it all quite a bit. Finally, I have decided on a plan.

I have been increasingly unsatisified with the domain/address of the site. This site was started with a focus of Epic 40K when it was doing OK, and evolved to encompass Battlefleet Gothic, initially as a place to store details of my vessels so when I gamed away from home I had the stats with me.

But, with the domain stating epic40k.co.uk, I find that the address does not cover Battlefleet Gothic at all (which is putting Gothic players off the site and meaning that it is not a site that they immediately associate with Gothic), it does not include the new, fourth edition of Epic and has been left behind on that game as well, and in addition includes a GW registered term, meaning that I am not comfortable with it and that it will always run the risk of being left behind as games and editions rise and fall out of favour.

Also, the site has lagged recently, and I have relied too much on Warp Rift to contribute to the updates and contents. In addition to all of this, the navigation needs work, and I would like look examine the possibility of changing the colours. I have learnt a fair amount over the last few years of running a site, and there are some things that I would simply do differently if I could. As well as all of this, there are a lot of really impressive sites emerging recently, and I feel that I need to do something to keep up with the constantly rising quality.

So, I have decided to re-invent the site. This site will move, the current site being slowly closed down and phased out, to be replaced by a new site at a new domain. The new site will exist at:

www.tacticalwargames.net

I know that some of you think that this lacks a little colour, but I feel that this address covers what the site is aimed at, is broad enough to cover any direction of gmaes that the future may hold, and sounds mature enough to fit in with the average Fanatic gamer. It sounds fairly professional and I am pleased with it.

However, while the appearance and other cosmetical aspects may change, most of the foundations of the site will remain, the articles, these boards, the players index and other areas will simply be moved almost untouched.

The current plan is:

Phase One - Sort out a new colour scheme and design for a site. This includes navigation and how the site will be divided and what its scope will be, as well as working on some new graphics and other features.

Phase Two - Once a front page and general navigation and plan is set up, these boards will be one of the first things to be moved across. The boards will hardly change at all. The only two differences will be a new colour scheme (to fit in with the site, and in addition to the two already existing, not replacing them), a reshuffle to put all of the Gothic boards in one place, and the Epic boards in another. Other parts of the these boards may also be move, but no part of these boards will vanish, and there may be extra boards added. All details, logins, passwords and other things will be transfered, and so aside from the address you all should not notice any difference.

Phase Three - Other features and articles will be moved across, starting with the Players Index, until the entire site is moved.

Now, I dont want anyone to panic about this. Knowing me, it will be about a year before this is put into motion. It will certainly not be a rushed job, and it will happen gradually and probably very slowly. In addition, I would be very interested in any quality articles about both Epic and Gothic, painting, collecting, battle reports and anything else. I want to be able to add a whole new lot of content at the same time as moving the existing content across.

Anyway, thanks for reading this far. If there are any questions or comments, I would love to hear them. Thanks for your support, and let me know if there is anything that you guys dont agree with, I am very aware that you guys make this site in many ways.

Thanks, and all the best.

Sounds good to me. Good luck with all the hard work; if there's anything we can help out with (images, logos etc.) please ask. As for articles I don't mind modified versions of some of the stuff I have/are planning to make for my site to be submitted here. I'll also see if I can come up with something original for you.

Anyway: www.tacticalwargames.net is hereby being added to the bookmarks :)

Cheers! :)

I wish I had the skills to offer my help. Sad to say, web design is not one of my skills.

So please accept my good wishes on this major overhaul.

Thanks for the well wishes guys. Right now, I am not sure exactly what I would need. In principle, articles of any kind would be great. I dont want to spend the first few months just transferring across old stuff, and I would like to have a half mix of old transferred and new articles. I would prefer articles which are new to the web or publishing, but each article would include a link back to the site of the author. As for graphics, well my ability here is pretty terrible. But, I am nervous about asking for too much help. I may need to make new ones or add graphics in the future, and if I didnt make the originals then that will be difficult.

I will probably get back to you all with a list of graphics that I would be open to accepting, and all graphics would be acknowledged in the pictures alt-text.

I will keep you informed. Thanks.

Having just done the relatively minor task of updating my own site to a new URL, I appreciate the amount of work you're undertaking in this move.

Rest assured that you wont lose any of us in the changes - we'll stick with the site & the boards whatever the URL.

I very much look forward to seeing what the new site becomes & watching it flourish at its new home!

Well, I am not sure how well I will be able to help, but ask away and I will try.  :D

The Cuban is with you sir... :D

But you have to ask yourself when was the last time the Cubans were on the winning side of a major conflict.  I think is was 1890.  :p
