Hi there!

I have one doubt about how the forums work.

In general, when I read a forum and get out of it again, the threads that I have read keep appearing as having new messages. It is quite a small thing, but sometimes I have to go back and open the forum once again to mke sure I am not missing some unread stuff.

So, my question would be if it could be possible to have a system that after opening the last page of a thread the thread no longer appears as having new messages to you. Could that be possible? I have seen it working like that in other forums and was wondering if this could be an option here as well. In any case, as I said it is not a big issue, so if it is complicated to change feel free to ignore this message :)

regards,

Xavi

Are you using the 'new posts' button at the top, or browsing the forums manually?

Mine seems to work like this- as soon as I've read the newest post, the icon for the thread changes to one without the 'new replies' bits of paper in the envelope...
I presume from your post that this isn't happening for you? ???

Well, I always use the new posts link, and just read whatever ones that I have a particular interest in, from top to bottom.  Then I go back to the main page, see if anyones on at the time, and if they are, check to see if someone has replied since I had been reading.  Then I click on the new posts link again and repeat the process.
Is this something like you are doing, or are you doing something different?  Because I'm having no problems....

I just go to "New Posts", and I also check the "Track this topic" box, on any topic I want to follow ... :)  Get a lot of e-mails that way !  :;):

I browse the forums manually and I have noticed that there is a slight delay if I do not "log out" before the topics update.

I think it is somehow part of the system that tracks who has been here in the last 15.

If I log out and log back in or if it has been more then 15 minutes then everything is OK.

Actually yes, I browse the forums one by one instead of clicking in the new topics button. To tel the truth I had not noticed it, ever :p If you do the browsing manually then you have to click on "mark all topics as being old" when you reach the bottom of the forum. Weird ??? it is the other weird around when you cick on new topics: if you reload all appear to be old!

I will try your system for a few days, guys, and see if it works propperly for me. After reading the first message I started thinking that my rcently formated computer was poo once again :D

Health and sixes,

Xavi

I know what you mean, as I browse the same way. I simply load the front page, and go through the boards which are indicated as having new topics. When I have done this, I can refresh the front page, and the same boards indicate new topics, even though I have just looked at them.

I think that this is a problem with the refresh of the boards from the server. You machine basically gets an old version of the front page, due to the server not updating quick enough (I think that this is right, but I could be corrected here).

There is not much that can be done, really. I simply browse as normal, and then look at the time and date of the last post in any forum that looks like it has new posts, to check if one has been added in the last 30 minutes.
