My initial guess is that this is a problem of where you are hosting them. Some hosts (and I think that Geo may be one of these) stop sites not on Geocities from linking to pictures with them. Their motivation is that that they spend the bandwidth and get nothing in return (since your average website is paid by ads, which are not used with picture links).

Perhaps we should ask, where are people hosting their pictures? Can we get a list of places that work OK?

PS: The resolution is whatever you want it to be, it is displayed unaltered. However, I would request that people dont post pictures above 640x480, and generally keep them as economical as they can.

Cheers Iain, I'll start looking for a new "free" hoster like geocities. I signed up for it just to put pics on forums. Oh well. I think maybe lycos do I free one. I'll look into it.

basically with hosting you get what you pay for....

free hosting (such as Geocities) make their "money" from placing adverts on your websites therefore if you use the "space" to place pictures then when a non-Geocities site (such as epic40k.co.uk) makes a request to their servers for a non-html file (such as a picture file (jpg)) then they will refuse to honour the request and you get the dreaded red cross box...

the reason my pictures appear as I pay for my web hosting!

How do people access this board, if it is from home, then your ISP space generally will work okay.

If it from work, then you are going to probably need to pay for some kind of web hosting if you want to post pictures (or you can create a webpage and post the link to the page)

As for actual posting - you should see an Image button, or you need to know the URL of Image as in http://www.jimbo.com/image.jpg and put in the following code

Code Sample

As for size, compression, etc you may find the following links useful

hope this is useful
