A friend asked me how the Tau play in E:A. I have no idea, so I searched the E:A forum for topics with the word "Tau" in in the topic title. Didn't think there'd be too many.

"The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: tau."

I highly doubt it's that common a word - I've got plenty of options to filter my search down to a manageable number of hits. If I search "how do tau play" all of those words are thrown out. My search-fu is weak; how are we supposed to do this?

Or go in to the Tau section of the NetEA development section. Also check the battle report section for info how the Tau does in actual games.

I put 'tau + guide' and checked the button for 'first post of topics only' and display 'topics'.

The result was 69 threads... although I am not sure how useful they all are.

Make sure you didn't actually type that in the Authors field instead. I've done that more time than I care to admit. With the black on black theme it's easy, especially on a mobile device, to do that.

Is the word frequency a configurable option? It is there to stop the search hanging on potentially expensive search operations (e.g. searching for "the"), but the database/code would have to be very inefficient to struggle with some of the words it filters. It really bugs me too, I come up against it a lot. Sometimes you can figure out a different way to search, like a phrase in double quotes, but quite often not.

Let's be honest, the phbBB search isn't particularly well implemented: it filters these words even when constrained to vastly smaller sets (e.g. searching the title, or using several words together). Though to be fair, it's not easy to implement good search, it's just we come to expect it because of Google. Sometimes it's best to let Google do what Google does best:

Unfortunately not. I assume that its an automatic decision based on some heuristic such as number of occurances in 100 words, etc.
