As the title suggests, I was wondering if a Tactical Command Facebook page had been considered? It was when I discovered fellow forum member Jodrell's page that I wondered why the board doesn't have a presence there.

If anyone else has any Epic groups or pages, please let me know, as I always enjoy seeing others' pictures of their miniatures or games!

I have honestly never considered it. What kind of thongs would go on there? I would be happy to set one up if people think that it would be useful.

First off, I'd like to state that I haven't suggested this because I think there is a problem with this site. On the contrary, I think the site and its community is magnificent.

One of the things that surprised me on fb is that I couldn't find an Epic 40k group - though after Kyussinchains link I dunno why not. I reckon that there must be some other people like me that are looking for a page like that. I'd expect there might be quite a few people who would "like" the page for nostalgic purposes, but my main hope would be encourage people back into the game (whichever version of the rules that might be). The big advantage of fb is that friends can suggest the page to other friends - if they "like" the page it appears in their news feed so every time they are on fb (and there is a posting) they'd be reminded about the game and maybe, just maybe, dust off their old miniatures and give the game a go again!

As to what things to put on the page, mostly pics would be what I would suggest; nicely painted items from the community (clearly not talking about myself on that one!), pics from battle reports, plus links to rules, missions etc suggested by the community. Direct links to posts which you deem to be of particular interest to a perhaps less hardcore audience could be made to the page. I'd love it if posting such links actually helped draw more traffic into this site because frankly I want as many people to be enthused by the love for the game here as I have been!

Anyway, it's just a thought!

PS I'd hope to keep the page free of "thongs" CS!

Well, I never took the suggestion as a 'fix', but more of a good idea.

I think that it is a great idea, and one of those things that cant hurt. I will get on this, as getting more exposure and traffic and building the site is something that I am interested in.

I wrote and ran a satirical news website for a year and used Google analytics so I could see both how much traffic was hitting my site and where it came from. I used both Facebook and Twitter (Google+ was launched that year and I never got around to looking into it) to try to direct traffic to the site. I had a fair amount of success with fb but struggled with Twitter, partly I think because I never really understood Twitter.

Like you say, don't think having a presence could do any harm. I found that it was really useful because unless people were in the habit of looking at my website every day they would forget about it. Fb users tend to be online a lot, so at least by liking my page there, there was a chance that they would see links and remember to have a look.

My page is no longer up, but if you are interested, the facebook page is still there so you can see (if you scroll down to Oct 2011) that I pretty much just posted links which people would click on, redirecting them to the website.

Well, dont tell anyone, but we actually already have a Twitter account: https://twitter.com/tacwarnet

I played around a while ago with an auto-tweeter for the main site, but it was buggy as hell so I abandoned it. But, the account is there and I will be using it at some point. I just dont want to tweet every post here as I think that would be overkill, I am not sure that tweeting every new thread would be relevant to everyone, and selective tweeting requires a more hands on approach.

I will look into setting up a fan page for TacWarNet in general and see how it goes. It will have at least one 'like'... me!

Thanks for the suggestion. I am certainly no expert on Fb - I consider it the enemy in much of my day to day life - so I may well seek further advice here.

Yes, definitely agree that you'd only want to link up the most relevant threads. I know there are a few ones I've posted where I'm asking the community for some advice, stuff like that I wouldn't post to the fb page... News that you think would be important, battle reports and some of the more inspirational painting/building threads would be what I'd be most keen to see links for. Alternatively, you could share a pic to pique interest with a short blurb, then in the comments section post the link if people want to know more.

agreed, it'd run well as a 'best of tccmnd' highlighting very active threads, the best pictures and silly stuff like caption competitions. Be a bugger to automate, and a huge time sink for you (unless you admin a few other people.)

postplanner can help spread the load a little (load up ten at start of week). Hootsuite and bufferapp are currently penalized by facebook, postplanner maybe in the future (plus it's like $20month)

We could run it as a rolling edition of 'Incoming!' though...

My shifting projects

Rather than creating a new group, why not just post good stuff in that existing Epic facebook group? (with the occasional link back here) It has 91 members and I'm not sure there's need for a new separate one as well.

Those looking for epic on facebook could find that group with a search easily enough with the various options in the title of 'Epic Armageddon, Space Marine , Epic 40,000 stuff', but they might never have heard of Tactical Command.

taccomms caters to many more game systems and manufacturers than epic and GW though.....
