i think P-chin is referring to the 'great work!', 'thanks for this', 'nice one' type posts rather than those with constructive feedback. I think a like/thank button is a good idea. |

I disagree. Take the armee development threads. I don't 'like' most of the 'debates' that go on in them and a lot of them are very controversial. I don't 'like' them but they are very important. The number of replies shows the controversy of conflicting views better than 'likes'. If a thread has no replies it probably means no-one cares. If a thread has many replies it is probably either very good, or a point of strong controversy – both of which are important over 'like'd-ness. You could use a like/vote system to order content replies (reddit etc), but that won't work, as project logs are time based. |

I am fairly indifferent to 'like'. I can see that there are some times when you just want to agree with a post, but an endless string of replies saying 'I agree' is tiresome. So, I did look into this a while ago. There is only one, abandoned add-on feature to 'like' posts here.... and it screwed up the forums and I had to uninstall and clean things up. So, I am afraid that this will not be appearing here short term. |

There are a lot of posts (especially miniature logs) where most of the replies are of the "this is cool" variety. If you're subscribed to that topic, that means you get a lot of spam for replies that have very little content in them. Having a "cool" or "like" button would help this problem, but wouldn't prohibit active discussion in topics where that's needed. See also AOL!. |

The idea of a "like" function is a good one in theory. When we have posted pictures of WIP/finished minatures it is nice to receive some feedback or encouragement. I have seen some people post replies to their own thread that they are concerned that their own thread has had a lot of views but no comments. So that is why we end up with a lot of short 1 line replies offering encouragement or commenting on the good painting etc. And as has been mentioned above, it is a bit annoying if you have subscribed to a good painting/modelling thread to get a load of e-mail notifications of replies to the thread but find hat there was no new content- just a load of one liner likes/comments. However if C/S thinks that it won't work in practice due to the way that forums are set up, then we will just have to park it for consideration in the future if the forum set up ever changes in future. I use view new posts but I also leave as "subscribe topic" to get notifications for threads that specifically interest me. |
