My apologies for that, guys, and thanks for your patience. We had an error with the boards that caused them to hit the database hard, which in turn caused the hosts to be all grumpy and turn us off. I have high hopes that things are now resolved, but I will continue to monitor in case these boards need to be taken offline again at short notice. Thanks. |

Just a thought CS - how is this board supported, i.e. do you pay for it yourself? If the problem that caused shut down of the boards can be solved by upgrading the account (i'm not savvy with webhosting speach), maybe its worth doing a call out to the users of this board - i.e. donations via paypal to help fund the board. I've been on a couple of sites that have used this model effectively, once a year asking members to donate - but only if they want to - this shouldnt be a 'pressure' situation. I for one, would be more than happy to send some money your way if it means keeping this boards operating at maximum potential. Just an idea. Tee |

Many thanks. The recent issue was caused by an error in the code, which resulted in a lot of requests to the database and caused issues with the hosts. Currently, the boards are paid for by myself, supplimented by the eBay revenue from the Wiki pages. While I appreciate the offer of financial help - and this does come up regularly, which is fantastic - I would like to keep these boards free and open access for all as much as I possibly can. That said, when the web site is in better shape, I will most likely be adding some subtle adverts to bring in a little revenue. These will never involve pop-ups and will be themed to the site itself. I am aware that I want the site to grow, and that this potential growth could and will place more strain on the servers, and so I need to start planning for this as early as possible. Thanks again. |
