We seem to have had a lot of spam attention recently. So, I have added a new stage to registration and I am cathcing a lot of potential spam registrations (about 10 in the last 24 hours). If any reading this attempts to register and it doesnt go through, just drop me a line - although it shouldnt be an issue.

Thats the thing.... we have Captcha already. And I deleted another 15+ registrations this morning that never got processed because of the new stage in signing up.... so our member total is going to suffer!

Aside from removing China from the face of the earth is there any other option? Is this a phpbb flaw or just better attack vectors?

In the last 3 weeks, we have had 600 new member requests. I would guess that about 10 if those have been genuine and approved. The rest have been blocked and removed. The system currently requires every new membership to be approved by me, and while this does add a delay to the process (anyone still waiting, please let me know), it does seem to be working. We have not had any spam in the three weeks that this has been in effect.
