Is that the reason the majority of old threads don't display the attached images,
or is this something completely unrelated...?

This must be a compatibility issue when we changed forum software, and the different way that the two versions handle quotes.

The picture/attachment issue is more severe, as the attachment folder was lost a short while ago (I now include this folder in backups!).  :oo:

Yeah the picture/attachment thing is the bigger problem. There are still a number of army list that aren't downloadable and lots of old pictures have gone. Good thing you're at least backing up from here CS.

Have you considered removing the attachment ability for photos if its possible to do it? (I know you'd want to keep the ability to attach documents, thats a big part of the board). Instead just get everyone to host on photobucket/whatever the other ones are called? Would probably cut down a fair bit of bandwidth and storage space.

That tends to dminish community. I cite Starship Combat News and Epic Battles DE as examples.

Off site photos have a really annoying habit of disappearing.  Just look at the much talked about, but little seen De'Aynes gallery. :sulk:

Yes, in my experience, this causes more problems. I am a member of several boards which require you to off-site host, and there is little worse than going to a thread to find all of the pictures gone because the member cleaned his flicker account.
