RE: Side bars, I have to say that I agree. If the side bars are smaller, the text stretches across the screen more, but I don't feel that the current setup is bad.

RE: Attaching images, this seems to be a server issue. I am looking into this now. I have chnaged a couple of things, please try again and let me know how you get on.

I think I better show just how big the sidebars are for me..

Actual sized (link not image due to size)

Sentences are surely ridiculously hard to read if you maximise a browser window on a screen that big? What's the point of having all that screen real estate for just one window?

I prefer fixed width layouts like the current one. It means everyone sees the same thing, and is more consistent with the "print" style of reading text.

Yes. If you make your window span the screen then the sidebars will be huge. Stop spanning your windows across the screen and the problem resolves itself :-)

The SG forums had the same issue. Was there a permissions problem there that was causing the problem? Might be a similar issue here.

Just tried again. Same issue. Do not count on continued feedback, though, as I will travel to feast in the fair city of Prague for the week, and thus busy imbibing tasty beer in architecturally interesting surroundings.

Yeah. This is a server issue that I need to sort out. I looked into it, and it caused a few issues on setting up the boards, too, with installing stuff. It's now my priority. I have checked the chmod settings and they appear fine, so I will do a bit more digging.

The edit button is in the bottom right of your posts (once they are made). Zooming the screen in will increase the text size and shrink the borders at the same time.

Got it !!! Thank you !!!! :whistle

I guess that the obvious solution would be to have fixed width edges and a centre section resizing with the text.

I think you have better things to do than cater to people that want to make the site unreadable by expanding the width of their windows to full screen in an attempt to get everyone's posts on a single line :-)

Maybe when you run out of other things to do you can look into it :-)

people with too much space arent so much of a problem as the people like me who have smaller monitors than CS apparently, and thus, see less.

the sidebar width thing is an annoyance, the huge banner is a bigger one. combining the two, and, and over a third of the screen is taken up by nonsense, which to me is unacceptable.

can you set the sidebars to a smaller width and continue to resize the centre based on the screen of the user?
and can you allow for a smaller/absent banner? or am i going to have to spend a bunch of time learning CSS so i can do/understand whatever those words that apoc said earlier meant?

huh? the banner scrolls with the rest of the page - I scroll down to read the thread anyway.

is your banner perma afixed to the top of the window?

no, but when i first go to the site (to the "new posts" section) i get to see a total of 3.5 threads before if have to scroll. so if four threads have been updated since last i checked, i need to scroll in order to see if a fifth also has.
yes, i can just scroll. no, i shouldnt have to. pet peeve of mine, but it is not an efficient design
the amount of information visible is to me atleast unacceptably low, and the payoff for this is a big-ass banner that tells me that i'm on a website i already know i'm on, and some sidebars that dont tell me anything at all...

Maybe CS should limit the amount of content on the pages as well so you don't have to scroll at all?
