Initially I will be uploading the content - I say upload and not creating, as I would be happy for people to send me stuff that I can check over and quickly add to the site. This will keep my job simpler, while still making sure that the tagging system is effective from the start. If a large group of people are not co-ordinated in the tages used and created, it can cause more problems.

After the initial stages, I will probably get some assistant editors on board with various remits - such as EA, 6mm miniatures, reviews, games rules news, etc.

Good plan. The army champions would make good contributors I'm sure.

All we need for the interim would be a text page with two download links.

I understand the impulse to make it shiny, but plain now is a lot better than shiny later.

I agree, but it's a lot easier to get things set up right initially, than it is to find a problem in three months and have to move everything. ;D Trust me.... I know!

Anyway, the basic structure is now up and running. A couple of comments:

- It's the menu system where the work has gone into.

- There is no actual content yet. This is relatively trivial to add and will be included shortly.

- EA and NetEA are two seperate categories. I wanted to keep this distinct. There will be cross links in the page descriptions and it will be clear what the situationn is, but I wanted to make this as accessible as possible, and I think that making it clear to new players 'here is the official GW stuff, and here is the stuff that we have been doing' stops any potential confusion.

- The strucuture is directed not just by the needs of EA, but of future games and resources to be added to the site.

- It ain't pretty. The basic areas and blocks are in place, but fonts and consistancy need looking at later.

It's not finalised and there are a few things that I want to correct, but the download page for the Compendium is now live on the main site. I am using this page to set a template for future articles on the site.

CS, I mean this in the nicest possible way, but this seems likely to end up being messy and confusing and way more complicated than necessary. There's banners, there's links, there's tags, and the whole effect is to add confusion and unnecessary options to something that, as I understood it, was supposed to be really, really simple.

A lot of that is probably because the main NetEA page is pretty empty. If you go to the menu and navigate to the NetEA option you will get to the NetEA page. This shows the articles for NetEA (which there is only one right now) and also allows me to set the text, add some menu links and set it up as a 'regular' page as well. A few clear links and explanation there should clarify things much better.

Can you explain maybe how you envisage this being used? I'm struggling to see a "NetEA website" here. Who is the target audience?

I have to admit that I am not really seeing the issues here. The structure will be pretty traditional. There will be two EA sections:
- Epic Armageddon; all official content, the game as it was left by GW
- NetEA; the community site with all updates, and where it was picked up, etc

Each of these sections main page is accessed through the main menu to select the game:
- http://www.tacticalwargames.net/content ... armageddon

From here, the sections will function as a pretty regular site, with two differences:
- The main page will have a brief outline and whatever we want as a 'landing page'. It will have a collection of pages at the bottom, but ignore those for now.
- The section will be essentially a collection of pages classified by the 'NetEA' category. From here, we can create a page to create whatever structure we want. In effect, it will work in a similar way to the wiki, a page/article is created and added into the NetEA category. We can then create a menu page, link them together or just leave them as a loose collection to be accessed through a search (although I wouldn't necessarily recommend the last option).

The new structure and allows us a lot more functionality (for example, the search capability) but we can organise things and set it up any way that makes sense.

To reiterate, the only real difference between this site and a traditional html web site is that here pages are added to the site and sit in a loose collection with a category. This means we can leave them as a loose collection, view all the pages in a certain category, or create a few extra menu pages (or automatic menu pages) to impose any structure that we want.

It is going to be a learning experience initially, but the flexibility and adaptability of this kind of site makes it easy to update and maintain and organise, as well as giving additional functionality.

The NetEA website will, as I understand it, be:

1) The front door for new users, explaining what NetEA is, what it does, and how it relates to SG and GW as a whole.

2) A source of news for NetEA members.

3) A repository of NetEA files - the Army List Compendium, FAQs and Errata, etc.

It will essentially be the interface between the NetEA team and the users of the content they produce, allowing users to find the content they need more easily without having to trawl the forums.

Can this be moved to the Taccoms Updates Board by someone with the neccessary privelages?

Exactly. Also, I may need to mess around with the web addresses to get a format that makes sense. For example, I have set up an alternative address for the main NetEA homepage at - www.tacticalwargames.net/netea

QFT

If I may quote myself again:

Quote:
All it needs is a page explaining what the NetEA is, plus a download link for the Army Compendium 2012 and the FAQ 2012.

This is what I have been saying..... We can do that. I was just trying to get the Compendium page up first as a priority. You mean something like this:

http://www.tacticalwargames.net/netea

Great to see the compendium up.

Sorry CS, but i have to agree with what others are saying here, at present what people are presented with is confusing and difficult to navigate.

While it broadly fits into a 'traditional' structure there is a LOT of fragmented header and site bar contents, and i do not know what to click to find certain things because of this. In a couple of your posts you've mentioned using the menu to find something – i can't even work out which menue. Elements in the sidebar being very excessively spaced does not help and limits the ability to group distinct sections of the sidebar into chunks.

The couple of para intro linked in your last post is 'ok', but it still needs breaking down with the key points and links pulling out.

Chunk and group info, create multiple levels of reading, create connections while removing navigation doubt.
