I was going to let this go, but I thought that it would be useful to explain the minor events of yesterday. We had a couple of people register and spam the boards. In itself, this was not such a problem, but at the same time it detracted from the maturity and focus of these boards. This type of thing will be dealt with severly.

There are a number of ways which this type of thing can be dealt with, and so I thought that I would explain a little to let you all know that this type of thing will happen, but that we are prepared for anything like it. The options open to me when this occurs are:

Warn the poster (there are five warning levels, indicated by a square bow below the posters avatar).
Stop the user posting (I can turn on and off posting rights to individual members (and so can halt them posting for a short time or for good).
Ban them (this simply involves me changing their password so that they cant get back in).
Set registration to approved (I have done this with the boards right now, and this means that every new registration needs to be approved before users are allowed to post. I will keep the boards like this for a little, and then change it back)

In addition, we now have a total of five moderators (aside form myself) who have taken charge of a board each. The reach of these mods may be increased as time goes on, but for now I dont think that we will need any more.

The last thing to mention is that each post has a 'report' link to it. Please do use this if you feel it necessary - it sends a PM to myself or a mod. The boards have grown to a size that I cant always check every thread (although I do try!) and so please let me know what is going on - even if it just looks like the thread may develop.

The only thing left is to say thanks, as this is the first time that anything like this has happened, and it says a lot that the only real incident is a result of 'outsiders'.

Its unfortunate that as this boards profile rases it attracts idiots.
Hopefully this wil not happen again but i hope I am around when they do }:)

Hi!

I would not worry about being "heavy handed" in this context. The net is full of trolls and people who dont respect other peoples opinions or spam the living daylights out of everything. So its good to be blunt, direct and ruthless in weeding them out.

I for one support your policies and actions in this regard.

Yeah, I don't agree with giving spammers too many chances to redeem themselves. There are plenty of places where they can go play.
