We seem to have two major differences in opinions about rules here in Western Australia that I want to clarify since we are having a tournament next month. 1. Broken units fleeing Some of us are of the opinion that a broken unit within one move of the table edge flee's off the table while others are of the opinion that broken units can flee in any differection thus won't flee off the table edge so always can regroup and get back into the game unless you completely destroy them. 2. Negatives to Rally rolls. It is my opinion that you get -1 to your rally roll for being within 30cm of enemy formations and that being within 30cm of multiple formations does not add and extra plus one per formation so the maximum penalty is -1 for units that are not broken and -3 for units that are broken and have enemy formations within 30cm. The other school of thought is that you get -1 per enemy formation within 30cm which means that it can become pretty much impossible to rally and get rid of BMs on a formation that is next to the enemy lines. The second is the biggest discrepancy as this represents a huge change in the dynamics of the game and makes assault armies much weaker. How do other people interperate these situations. I definitely want to get this clarrified before running the tournament. |

While not a rules expert here is how I believe these situations work out. 1. The fleeing off the table edge is a 40k concept. Broken units in EA can move in any direction and indeed don't have to move at all. Just make sure you don't end within 15cm of an enemy formation, as they are automatically destroyed. 2. The -1 penalties are not cumulative, a rally attempt for being within 30cm of one or more enemy unit suffers only a -1 penalty. |

It is my opinion that you get -1 to your rally roll for being within 30cm of enemy formations This is a mis-reading of the rule/concept; it states: "There are enemy units within 30cms: -1" It's an either/or condition, either there are enemy units within 30cms, and you get the -1 to the check (this also applies to non-broken formations rallying in the end phase) or there are not enemy units within 30cms, so you don't get the penalty. The rule says nothing about enemy "formations", and formations and units are quite clearly described. Also note that *broken* enemy units within 30cms still give the -1 penalty to opponents. Thanks guys. That really clears things up. No more IG ordinance knocking units off the table on first turn then (yay). |
