Hi, I have a few questions regarding the Chaos lists. These are probably really simple, but no harm in asking. I'm a little confused about the characters included in retinues, are they an upgrade for one of the units, or an extra unit? For example, the listing is: "One Chaos Lord character upgrade and eight Chaos Space Marines units." Which would sugest that it is 9 units (8 marines + Lord), but the lord is an upgrade so it should replace one of the marine units? The example in the text is equally unclear: "...For example, a Black Legion Retinue consists of eight Chaos Space Marine units and a Chaos Lord character for 275 points..." Also do the Icon Bearer and Chaos Champion replace the Lord unit or one of the standard Marine units? |

Characters do not replace units - they are added to them, and any weapons or abilities they possess are added to the unit. So a Retinue would consist of 8 units, one of which get the Chaos Lord added to it. That unit would still count as a Chaos Space Marine unit in all respects (it would still have an autocannon, for example), except that it would now have an extra MW attack, Leader, Commander and Invulnerable Save. |
