Alright I confess! I CONFESS! I LIKEthe new look of the Nids. My fingers have ben itching for a while to convert some of the 40k models into Epic scale monstrosities. So: With no experience with the nids whatsoever how do you propose I put together a 3000 points list? I would prefer to have a lot of AVs and WE's since tracking down infantry is such a pain but obviously I also need enough to make it more or less tourny legal. What I had in mind was buying a box of Gaunts, a box of Warriors and some torsoes of Tyrant Guard and Broodlords to convert into bio-tanks and artillery. Then I'm going to pick up some Epic Hive Tyrants, a Dominatrix, a Hierophant, and a couple of Carnifexes and whatever infantry I can lay my hands (or claws, or tentacles or whatever...) on. Anyway: The models available will be something like this: 1 Dominatrix 1-2 Hierophants 3-4 Hive Tyrants 3-4 Carnifexes Possibly a Harridan 6 units of Bio Artillery: (Exocrines or Dactylis) 6-9 units of Haruspex (Haruspex/Malefactor) 3 units of Hierodules/Trygons Now obviously I'll need a hell of a lot of infantry to be able to field all this at once. However with the above mentioned units available how would you set about building a 3000 point Nid army with a minimum ammount of infantry? |

Things like Carnifexes, Zoanthropes, Hive Tyrants and (especially) Biovores are easier and cheaper to come across on eBay - although they are the older versions. There is a posbility to convert a new Carnifex out of 40K parts with a bit of imagination, since the new ones are so large. I thought about the posibility of using some of the Warmaster Lizardmen as spare parts to make some of the new style Tyranid Warriors - but I never got very far. DRM should also be releasing some 'buggy' aliens which would also serve as proxies in the reasonably-near future. |

Raveners can be made from 40k-scale Plastic Rippers... which are the most expensive common infantry for 'nids. |

Alright. Maxing out on WE's and AVs I "only" need to pick up roughly 10 stands of each Hormogaunt, Termagant, Gargoyles and Raveners. Gargoyles can be picked up at ChaosOrc's and Raveners from GW which leaves just the gaunts. ?I should get roughly 10 40k raveners from the Gaunt and Warrior boxes and if I also pick up a blister of FW raveners I should be well covered (Gonna use a couple of raveners for heads on ly assault spawn). If I begin by colecting the other stuff then hopefully DRM will have some news on their range ans I'll see if I can find some suitable proxies for the base infantry there. BTW I included a bit of photoshopping based on pics fromthe online store. Basically how I want my version of the bio-artillery and assault spawns to look. |

Good point. I might throw some kind of hoof together from plasticard instead. |

The front claws from the 40K Tyrant Guard work well for this kind of thing. |

The Tarragin would work well too, they'll be kicking past your painting workshop soon, I could always send a few too many. |

I've made my bug swarm army on the cheap using the following: Hormogaunts (Brigade): ![]() Hive Tyrants (Pendraken): ![]() Warriors based in threes (Pendraken): ![]() 'fexes (Pendraken): ![]() Raveners (Pendraken): ![]() I've used an unconverted 40k Tyrant Guard as a Hyrophant and 40k Termogaunts with two sets of Hormogaunt front claws as scythed Heirodules. Thanks Colonel. The Pendraken stuff looks promising. Now for the actual organization of the army: Generally speaking is it better to go for many small broods with many Synapse creatures, or few, large broods? |

(CyberShadow @ Jan. 24 2007,10:38) QUOTE The front claws from the 40K Tyrant Guard work well for this kind of thing. You all know that I meant the middle claws... right? |

Yes, I have some of the Pendraken aliens and will add them to my 'Nid Swarms ! And from what I can tell/guess ... DRM and E/W will come up with Bug-like creations, too ! ![]() ![]() |
