Just in on the SG site: Jervis Johnson's article on using Chaos in Epic. He says Black legion and Lost + Damned official lists will be up soon, and confirms release of the plastic infantry sprue...

For once I'm happy!

regards,
Reaver

Oh, it also says they are re-releasing some metal models for special units, too.

wonder if this means the previously unreleased dreads, or have they found the vehicle moulds?

I seriously doubt that we will see metals. It was mentioned somewhere that this may be a consequence of the article being written a while ago, and the climate has changed... even though the article has the Plague Tower pictured!

I found it slightly un-inspirational. I am very happy and relieved that Chaos plastics will make it, but sorely disappointed by the lack of anything beyond a single sprue release.

"In addition we're re-releasing a limited range of metal models for
unique units found in the Chaos army lists." - Jervis

I will keep a dim flicker of hope alive, but at this stage I'm picking yet another GW screw up. (It appears that I've joined the cynics at long last... :D)

Given the proxie list it gives (eg Banelord - Warlord), it seems pretty clear they have indeed lost those newly sculpted and never released Chaos unit. Thus if any metal Chaos is released it would seem likely that it would be much older stuff which wouldn't be a bad thing.  They have done just that with other ranges, eg the varieties of ork gunwagons, plus eldar phantoms and imperial reavers.

Lost and lost...How does professional company that has been around for almost three decades lose moulds and master models conviniently for entire range anyway? And why infantry sprue wasn't lost alongside then? One would think that being part of same range they would be stored at same place and thus if one is lost so is other...

There are FW concept sketches floating around the net for all kinds of new daemon engines.  According to E&C, the requirements they put on releasing Epic stuff is 1) they have a 40K model, and 2) there is an Epic line to support it.

Both of those would apply, so I think there is reason to hope for FW daemon engines at some point in the future.

How about the BBC and all the Doctor Who episodes they threw out?

Sometimes companies have to have a clear out, if only for cost of stock maintaince. Moulds take up a lot of space.

Later on, we all have regrets :S

While I am very excited to see anything released for Chaos, it is a rather depressing lot.

I was also quite disappointed that instead of an article on converting vehicles to Chaos, we got a counts as list.  Not that I can't come up with my own conversions, but it's always good to hear ideas from someone else.

I concur, the release of Epic Chaos from SG makes FW Daemon engines a better possibilility, especially as they'll be focusing on remaking the Daemon engines in 40k scale around the 1st/2nd quater of this year.

We may well find that their Daemon Engines will stray from the older Epic designs along the same lines as the FW Tyranids differ from the old SG ones.

I actually hope their execution differs radically from the old ones, but it would be nice of the very basic core concepts were the same, e.g. artillery-style stuff for Nurgle, assault-y stuff for Khorne, floaty stuff for Tzeentch and zippy, shooty stuff for Slaanesh.

I have to admit that I drool at the thought of a FW-designed Tzeentch Silver Tower and Warp Palace set.

To be honest, I wouldnt even call it a 'counts as' list - more like a list of Imperial units with the word 'traitor' in front of each.

I really like the idea of Daemon Engines... and I am with Neal in that I hope that they are different but keep to established themes. But, if they do, I will need to rethink my forces - the idea of Nurgle catapault stuff is just too good to pass up.

So, back to the good old days of the Horus Heresy then...
