This came up in another topic, and I thought that it deserved a thread of its own. The challenge is to put together a list for Epic Armageddon, which is viable to actually play and works well. The restrictions are: - it must be the cheapest possible in funds, using the official prices in the online store (UK or US), not including postage charges but can include Forge World stuff - it must be worth 1500 points - it can be for any 'core' list: Marines, Orks, Imperial Guard or Eldar - no other variants, etc - it cannot use aircraft, war machines or space vessels - you can create an additional 500 point block which does include war machines, to add to the central list This should be a nice jumping on point for anyone new to the game, to allow them to have a small, decent and playable force for minimum outlay to practise their skills and learn the core game. I look forward to seeing what you come up with. |

Marines: Tactical Detachment, Captain, 3 Rhinos - 350 Tactical Detachment, 3 Rhinos - 300 Assault Detachment, Chaplain - 225 Devastator Detachment (Garrison) - 250 Terminator Detachment, Chaplain - 375 Purchases: Battle company box - $20 Rhinos - $22 Terminators - $17 1500 pts, $59 I didn't include a character pack, I like to pick them out with painting. This would be another $15 if desired. Additional: Thunderhawk (to mount up Devastator and Assault) - 200, $20 Whirlwinds - 300, $20 2000 points - $99 Plus additional Terminator, Assault, and Devastator Detachments left over This makes a nice core force full of useful formations that can easily be added to with Landspeeders, Razorbacks, Scouts, etc. |

Big Warband - 350 Warband +1 boyz/grots +5 Battlewagons - 400 Kult of Speed (buggies) - 200 Kult of Speed (bikes/skorchas) - 200 Big Blitz Brigade w/ 2 oddboyz - 350 === Edit: If we're going by real-money cost as well, I would go a bit differently. 2 boxes of infantry, 2 blisters of battlewagons and 1 blister of Koptas could make: Big Warband - 350 Warband + 5 Battlewagons - 375 Warband + 5 Battlewagons - 375 Big Blitz Brigade (Koptas) - 250 Stormboyz - 150 That's $89US and still a mix that should give the feel of Orks. |

Imperial Guard Steel Legion List Infantry Company : 250 - Hydra : 50 Infantry Company : 250 Mechanized Infantry Company : 400 - Tank Squadron : 200 Artillery Battery (Manticores) : 250 Sentinel Squadron: 100 1500 points Expanding to 2000 Infantry Company: 250 - Hydra: 50 Infantry Company: 250 Mechanized Infantry Company: 400 - Hydra: 50 Tank Company: 650 Artillery Battery (Manticores) : 250 Sentinel Squadron: 100 2 GW - Infantry Company 40USD/24GBP 1 FW - Hydra (3) ~10USD/5GBP 1 GW - Tank Company 40USD/20GBP 1 GW - Chimeras 25USD/12GBP 1 FW - Manticore (3) ~10USD/5GBP 1 GW - Sentinels (4) 17USD/9GBP Total 142USD/75GBP Cost total is needed to get the 2k list. Can instead buy 3 Tanks from FW to reduce the cost of 1.5k list. The big change between the 1.5k list and the 2k list is the adding of a Tank Company over a Tank Squadron and a Hydra in place of the Tank Squadron. Going up to 3k, adding/upgrading an Infantry Company to a Regimental HQ, adding another Manticore Battery. That leaves 500 pts for a Superheavy Company (Shadowswords). |

Realized I need to come up with the cost. Will work on that, should have it by today. Need a few more list Eldar, Feral Orks, & Siegemasters. I may try to build a Article for Firebase out of it if that is cool? Willing to have help with it. |

(orangesm @ Dec. 14 2006,09:51) QUOTE I may try to build a Article for Firebase out of it if that is cool? Willing to have help with it. Never mind Firebase, how about an article for Incoming? I'm pretty sure Warmaster Nice needs some articles. |

I'm torn on the whole Firebase/Incoming split. On the one hand, I thin WMN does a fabulous job and it's cool to have something dedicated to ideas for Epic. On the other, Firebase is intended for a broader audience and might generate cross-over appeal that would boost the numbers of the Epic community in general. |

Good point, Neal. Firebase would reach a broader audience and expose people to Epic. |

Firebase and Incoming is a difficult decision and I guess it boils down to personal choice. My way of looking at it is that Firebase has more sources to get articles from and I personally don't want Incoming to die out due to a drought of articles :S. |

No reason not to put the Article in both. The idea to put it in Firebase is to sell the game basicly. I think anything that we send to firebase should be kept as offical as possible in terms of rules (Experimental Rules for some races, but nothing that we are developing or similiar). Also try to make the articles that go to Firebase introduction oriented. Remember the people that read Incoming are the already Epic Players normally. The article may need a slightly different tone there. More of a guide of what to have on hand to introduce players to the game. So two articles for the intro list, based on the same material. The Firebase article should be written for 40k players who want to play Epic or at least try it out. Basicly a guide to building your own Battle of Macragge/Battle of Skull Pass for Epic (what you need for the Training missions) and then where to go after that - the Battalion Box of Epic for the core race. Incoming article is for those of us who are have 1 or 2 main Epic Armies (full forces, Regiment or Chapter scale type stuff) and need to have some small forces (1.5k to 2k to 3k) on hand for games that go beyond the Training Missions. It should talk about introducing the game to 40k players. Odviously alot of us have played 40k before, some of us still do, what ways can we introduce the game to the 40k tourney superplayer or the fluff crazy player or the painter or the converter. Updated Cost of initial list. |

If this is going into an article, maybe the lists should also have a short discussion of them: how to put it together, how to use it in a game, a future upgrade path, etc. I'll be away for a few days, but I could write one up when I'm back. |

Anyone have an Eldar or Feral Ork army that is similiar to the above (1.5k w/ expansion to 2k)? I am considering doing an article "Getting into Epic" or "Epic: Training" for Firebase that goes over putting together an initial purchase for a pair of people interested in Epic and then a follow-on article "Epic: Beyond Training". If I do the articles I would post the various rough drafts on here to get feedback. I would still need an Eldar Swordwind, Baran Siegemasters, Feral Ork, and White Scars list as these are the offical list (possibly just Eldar as to not overwhelm those who have not yet taken the plunge). |
