im just getting a grasp on the basic rules of epic. i printed out the entire downloadable section of the rulebook from the GW site, and read it quickly to get some sort of grasp, i know the best way to learn is to play, but i dont have anyone in my area that plays, yet. so, i have been told this was the place to post questions, and i have a few, and will prolly have more as the day goes by. so here is my first volley of questions: 1. warbands. say i have a basic warband (i play orks), if i want to add extra stuff to it, say more boyz, at +25, is that +25 per STAND? so a stand of 5 boyz is 25 points. 2. along those same lines, when a unit takes hits, what happens exactly? would one failed save drop an entire base of 5 boyz? 3. where are the rules for mega gargants? im sure ill have more as time goes by. thanks all |

1 & 2. think of each stand like a single model in 40k, no matter what is on the base 5 men, 2 men and a gun, tank, buggie. 3. They don't balance well in epic so they are not in the list, however the rules for them are at the back of the printed rulebook if you want to use them for scenarios |

(studderingdave @ Nov. 02 2006,20:01) QUOTE 1. warbands. say i have a basic warband (i play orks), if i want to add extra stuff to it, say more boyz, at +25, is that +25 per STAND? so a stand of 5 boyz is 25 points. Yes. All prices are per "unit" and a "unit" of infantry is a stand of 5 boyz in this case. 2. along those same lines, when a unit takes hits, what happens exactly? would one failed save drop an entire base of 5 boyz? A unit is for all purposes one entity even though there are 5 little Orkses on the stand. A failed save means the stand is removed. 3. where are the rules for mega gargants? They are in the Collectors' Models section of the printed rulebook, which is not included in the pdfs online. The stats are not "official" and have no point value for GT scenarios. They are pushing the edges of what the rules can handle but many people have reported having a lot of fun scenarios using them. There are copies of that rulebook section floating around (scans, pre-release docs from playtesters, etc.). If no one offers soon you can start a thread and ask. ==== Ask all the questions you want. We're just uber-geeky enough that we actually enjoy answering them... ![]() |

Just don't forget that the 25 points for the Boyz includes an optional Grot stand! ?Those Grotz are golden and are critical in making the Warbands competative in FF with IG and Marines (at least in their first combat). ?But yes, it's 25 points per extra stand (+ optional Grots). ?It's generally more cost effective to buy a Big or 'Uge formations than add extra stands to smaller formations, but the upgrades can give Orks some important abilities (like extra Grotz, extra Nobz, or Dredz and Killa Kanz to help a Stompa Mob gain the "Mob Up" bonus described in 5.5.1). |

Hi. Feel free to ask any questions you have here. If you are looking for opponents, have a look on our sister site: http://www.epic40k.co.uk/cgi/players.cgi?action=search Also, arent MegaGargants in the Orky Gargant Big Mob list? One other thing to mention, an entire unit consists of a number of guys on a base, and this is the smallest unit in the game. This is why some powerful guns such as a LasCannon are not as good at shooting infantry as you might expect, because although it would fry one guy, the unit would still be combat effective. |

ok, am i correct to assume that "activations" are what each unit is doing each round? and by playing an orkimedes big gargant mob, i would have less activiations becuase i would have fewer units (gargants?? |

That's correct. That's the downside to playing OBGM and AMTL. You tend to be out-activated. |

Pretty much! If I have ten 'Uge mob formations, and you have two gargants... then I have ten activations, and you have two activations! |

Hey Dave, Activations dictate what each formation is doing, not each unit. So when you are playing, each unit in a given formation will perform the same action. March: All units in the formation march. Move-Shoot: All units will move up to their maximum movement rate and fire at a single target (also a single formation). There are times that the formation is a single unit (in the case of Gargants, Great Gargants, and Landas), but for the most part you will have lots & lots. Hope this helps. Keep coming with the questions. ![]() |

what are the signifigance of blast markers. from the rules i gather that they affect what a formation does in a round? like if my unit took hits it gets a blast marker? |

Hey Dave, The Blast Markers (often referred to on the forums as BMs) do a number of things and in many respects drive the game. 1. If a formation has ANY blast markers, it receives a -1 penalty on its activation roll. Ex. If a Space Marine Tactical Squad wished to perform a double (or single or whatever) it would typically have to roll a '1' to succeed. In other words, it would automatically pass. However, with a blast marker on the formation it needs to roll a '2' or better. 2. The BMs supress fire of the formation's units. There are some details to go over on this, but for the most part each BM suppresses one unit. 3. Relating to the above, when all units in a formation are suppressed (i.e. the number of BMs equals the number of units in the formation), the formation is considered broken (see those rules now). |

Also: Blast markers on your formations are a disadvantage, on enemy formations are an advantage for you in engagements. |
