NICE! Now we have a _real_ chapter to toy around with. None of these sissy Codex followers or Crusading chaps for me. ![]() |

The White Scars sound great to me. Just played about 6 games now with 3,000 - 4,000 points of Ultra marines. I like the idea of a lot of really good assault troops attacking at speed. Bikers are better in the assault that Assault Marines in my opinion as they have the 4+ Firefight factor. This will be my next project I think. Question - as these are a new army can you mix them with Ultra Marines or do they have to fight as different forces? |

Johnny Rico - should do well against 'Nids! ![]() We played AH's "Starship Troopers" game over and over! ? Great game and book... ?On the other hand... I limit my Close Combat troops in all nine of my Epic Armies... if they wanted us to go into hand-to-hand, why'd they give us ranged weapons? ![]() |

Design philosophy in 40k seems to swing the other way - Why shoot them when you can hack them? Obviously, I think most people would have an answer for that. ? ![]() EDIT: Also, for anyone interested, Mongoose Publishing acquired the rights to Starship Troopers, both the film and novel versions. Apparently they have some grand scheme to make fans of both Verhoeven and Heinlein happy at the same time - that's a fairly major undertaking. Anyways, RPG and wargame rules, with the latter being produced first along with some plastic miniatures and then more stuff. |

Which is why I use Devastator squads with missiles - useful against troops and tanks and intended to hold them away. I'll admit that one such squad had to beat off Tyranid hormagaunts in three rounds of close combat - presumably by clubbing them with their launchers. Not quite what I had in mind..... they did finish off a Carnifex in the intended manner after their hand to hand victory, though. ? ![]() Ok, Epic is a great wargame, but I still manage to enjoy 40K - good for a laugh. |

I play (or, rather, hope to play someday... ![]() Besides, shooting does not capture anything. If you just stay put and blast away you don't gain any ground. Sooner or later you'll still have to get up close and personal, although admittedly that's best done when the enemy is keeping their head down because half of your guys are blasting away at them. Back to Templars, I'm going to try and use my Command squad as the main fire support formation of the army with the Marshal giving hand to hand support in case they are charged. |

Welcome to the boards. In tournament games, you would need to pick White Scars or Ultra Marines and they could not be on the same side. In you own games, anything goes. Personally, I would treat one of the forces as allies and allow up to 1/3 of the points on them, but if you want to mix and match then that is your choice. |

Thanks for all your answers. Yes I am a big fan of Starship Troopers. I've had 5 copies of the book and lent out each one and never had them back. I can not find a copy of the book anywhere at the moment. Also had the AH game which was cool. Just so you all know, I have never played the normal Games Workshop 40K, but I find the Epic stuff irresistable - Real Wargaming to me. |
