Quote (vanvlak @ 29 2004 June,11:57) | No, Stormseer, that refers to the Squats' waistlines...:p | Yah, that's it. I ment to spell it that way.

well, to excuse myself for our short fellows, i consider the land train concept as quite aceptable, and even appealing indeed. I have a project of scratch building one (carefull, i have LOTS of projects); but i would like too see something way more technical looking, on par with the BFG demiurg ships for example. The actual epic models looked too much like a toy IMO. I would paint some squat Santa klauss and add some pines here and there, and it's christmas on the board. Well... All in all, i guess it's much a matter of taste; i discover the SM sarge/SM comander controversy, so i realise that its possible to have opposite point of views indeed (you don't mind me borrowing your famous word Legion ? ). Markonz even like the E40K eldar titans, (sorry Markonz), although he's the man who first gave me the idea of basing on something else than standard base (never thought of it before seing your wonderful bugs !) so i suppose we should never consider any of our taste as universal. And yes, i'm well known for my ability to build long sentence that end statinn evidences .

Indeed you may use that "word" ! I painted my 2 Squat trains, one in jungle green and one in olive drab (in tactical colors as is most all my Squat and Epic Forces !). With plenty of WWII tranfers/decals adorning the hulls. Kind of cool, IMO !

Didn't the Germans have train based artillery pieces? Just to put a historial precursor on the table....

Yes they did... the Squat 'trains' don't run on rails though of course- the concept is very odd in my opinion- as a real world unit it would be very inflexible in battle, as well as being hideously unmanouverable.... I'm turning into L4 here..
The old Squat models were generally pretty poor in my opinion; although the land train wasn't as bad as the airship- very 'toylike' as Athmos said....

The way it works, I would rather see it as a deep support.
That is why I liked these "Land Ships":

Glad to see I'm having a "positive" influence on the crew ! And yes, both the Germans & Russians had armored war trains. Some mounting heavy field guns, AA weapons etc. But as Storm, noted, the rails limited their mobility. The Days of Empire "Land Ships", in the pic, would make a great Squat vehicle, but as "P" said, it is very expensive !
