I own Space Marine/Titan Legions, but never got Epic 40K. I've been trying to keep tabs on the developments on EpicA and will probably end up buying it when it eventually comes out. Could any of the playtesters give me a general overiew or any other useful info on how the new game system is shaping up? I know I could sign up at the playtesting vault, but unfortunately I don't really have the time at the moment. Thanks.

I must admit that I really like the way that EpicA is going. Right now, the rules are pretty much ready (although I am sure that there will be changes), and there are lists for Orks, Guards and Marines. Chaos are under development and Eldar are on the way after that (Shadow Hunter, did you sent your list to Jervis?).

The game is different to all others in the sequence of events. You pick a formation, conduct an action with it and then try to hold the initiative. If you do this, you then automatically pass it to the enemy who has his go (meaning that you cant move more than two formations before the enemy reacts).

The game is more detailed and feels better than previous versions. Firing is done by rolling a dice and each weapon has a score to beat. The target then gets to save.

It is looking to be a good game.

Yes the way its spanning out is looking good.  I haven't been to the forum for a few weeks due to lack of time.  I have put the epic projects on hold at the moment.

I sent the Eldar list into Jervis, and he sent a reply thanking me for it.  He said he's received a couple and will butcher the good ideas from them to come up with the final version.

On the playtesters forum there have been a couple of other lists posted up too.  I haven't had a chance to look at them that thoroughly.  I did note that a few people have used my list as a base for their own versions, which is nice.  There are some improvements/upgrades which my list needs, but I haven't got round to.

I cant wait for the system to come out.  I am hoping to go along to my club with some epic to try and spark interest.  It worked really well with the BFG campaign, so...

Actually, Cyber, could you do me a favour?

My computer is still dead, as such I haven't got the link to the paytesters forum or vault.  Could you post the links?  I remember my password, I just dont know the address for the site.

Ok, guys.
I've posted about these some time ago on the EA playtester's forum, though they seem to have passed almost unnoticed.
There are 3 unofficial army lists, that I'd like you to check out. These are: Necrons v 1.4, Sisters of Battle v 1.2, and, though not necessarily important, the Kroot Mercenaries v 1.1 . The Kroot are more of a side-effect, done mainly to kill time, but you may use them both as an army of their own adn as mercenaries, as fragment of another army.

The Necron list is the very first one I started, this is 5th version, much improved over the time. Follows the Codex:Necrons very closely.
Oh, and but one question: What stats would you give Necron "Scorpion" unit in Epic? It's going to be similar to a Tomb Spyder, but ground based, without enchancing the Necron self-repair, but with a heavy punch- one Gauss or even Heavy Gauss cannon is a must. Maybe some more weapons too. It will have claws as Spyder does. Maybe also what stats would you give the War Engine based on very similar concept, probably with Particle Whip or Beam instead of Heavy Gauss.

Sisters of Battle are a niche army, but quite fun to play. You cannot shoot enemy apart like Marines do, neither make a furious close quarters charge like the Tyranids. They are not numerous as Orks, but not too powerful as well. You have to balance your tactics and use each unit in complex plan. And you still have some good troops, say Seraphim who are somewhat equal or even better than Assault Marines, and for less points! Or Exorcist: D6 Krak missiles. That's risky. You can roll 1 missile. But you can also roll 6. A formation of 4 of these babies can shoot anywhere from 4 to 24 missiles in a turn. Ouch. 24 Krak Missiles really hurt. With Indirect Fire, not Artillery. I did not want to copy a Whirlwind too close. It's a big gamble, but worth it's points.

They are all for download on the adress: groups.yahoo.com/group/epica
And, thanks to the CyberShadow, the Necron and SoB lists are going to appear on his website too. Thanks once again, Shadow.

Anyway: please post your coments on this thread as much as you like to, and do not spare any harsh opinions. These lists ar made for you, after all.

"The Vaul-moon shall bring forth the Dragon
The Master of Death will drink deep from Isha's Eye
That Which Lies Outside will be drawn to harvest
And the Jackal-God shall turn brother against brother.
The Four shall take place amongst the stars,
Their Legions ascendant, unstoppable as the night"

A joke:
"-How do you call a Necron army?
-???
-Basically, as far as I know, a group of Necrons is called a Threat"
Got it? Threat. Heh, Heh...

Yep, the SoB and Necron list will be added soon. I have also cast an eye over them this weekend and I will post my comments here soon. Thanks.

Does anyone know what the difference for the SM Hunter and SM Whirlwind Hyperios is?

Other than one being designed by FW for 28mm 40k and the other by Jervis for E-A!

----------------------------

Can someone who has the FW Imperial Update book fill me in on what the Landraider Helios does?

This is what FW has on the site:

This is a five-part resin conversion kit for the plastic Land Raider to equip it with a large missile launcher and targetting system. Master model by Will Hayes. The full rules for using the Helios in games of Warhammer 40,000 can be found in Imperial Armour Update

What is the Helios missile launcher for us against? Land targets, aerial targets or something else?

-------------------------------------------

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi!

I'd be interesting in knowing too. I'm way out of the loop as far as updated Warhammer40k is being shaped.

Fluff from the update:

"The Land Raider Helios is a simple workshop conversion of the standard Land Raider, replacing the twin-linked Heavy Bolters with a Whirlwind missile launcher. Thus turning the standard land Raider into a long range support vehicle. First constructed by tech marines of the Red Scorpions Chapter, when extra artillery support was needed during the siege of Helios -it was felt that the Whirlwinds alone could not deliver enough fire into the citadel and the Red Scorpions were unwilling to rely upon Imperial Guard support. Whilst Whirlwinds remain the standard artillery vehicle of all Chapters, the flexible Helios variant has spread to other chapters, to be deployed when they are in need of extra artillery support."

0-1 Heavy support choice; may carry 6 marines.

About the Hunter and Hyperios I have no info. ?:(

I've posted the question on the EA playtesters board but so far only silence in reply from Jervis...

Tas,

Thanks for posting the question at E-A.

I've been tempted too, but I don't make it very often by the E-A playtester's board.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.
