Can someone clear up some confusion here? In the Chaos list, there are two sections, marines and cultists. Are these two separate armies, or can I use formations from each section? I guess I am confused because in Epic40k there was no question about it, everything was in one section. My 2 cents, iblisdrax |

Similar to what happened with the Imperial Guard and Marine armies for EA, the chaos are now split into two lists, Cultists and Marine. I read something about why this was so on the official forums a day or two ago - balance and fluff reasons. |

Hi! Chaos has become a large army with many varied parts. In net epic we did the same thing and divided the army into its chaos marine, cultist and demonic components. Primarch |

For my part, it kinda sucks. I have parts of both lists, but not all of either one. And the cult list desparately needs some AA firepower. And where do you use your Traitior IG units, ie, whole companies and regiments that turned to Chaos? my 2 questions, iblisdrax |

Hi! We solved that by making a "core" army of one of the main themes and then allowing common units to be used by all parts. For example the cultists army have access to planetary defense force equipment (basis IG stuff), but not chaos space marine stuff. Each army has their "perks" and character, while still being "chaos". Primarch |

Hmmm, so concievably you could simply say that a cultist army could utilize tank, artillery, etc from the IG list? my 2cents, iblisdrax |

And, if your local group allows, (which mine does), you could concievably use Chaos Space Marines and Cultists as allies, like the IG and Space Marines? my .02, iblisdrax |

Hi! Yes. IG equipment, at least common stuff, should be readily available for cultists to use. One rule trumps all others, whatever you and your gaming buddies decide ARE the rules.... Primarch |

We use the SM1 templates, where you can field an CSM Legion and a Chaos Cult in total, side by side, but not bitz and pieces from here and there. No "cherry picking", I think that's what they call it ... ![]() |

We use the old Ally rules from SM2. The Main Force has to be a full army in and of itself. Up to 30% of the Total points may be spent of an allied army, but it has to be a legal force in its own right. EG In a Cultist Army of 3k points, I take 2.1k of Cultistists and 900 points of CSM units |

That sounds good. Maybe not allow supporting each other in firefights and assaults. or would that be too restrictive? my 1+1 cents, iblisdrax |

Hmmm ... I'm not so sure ... that may be too restrictive. ![]() |

I think that would be fine where you have two allies who normally wouldn't be fighting together or who have a history of animosity (Eldar and IG, Dark Angels and Space Wolves). It would also be a good way of representing 'green' troops. However, for Chaos, I think it would only work if you couldn't support a formation from a hated faction (Khorne could not support Slaanesh, or Nurgle support Tzeentch and vice versa). |

Hi! We added animosity between chaos factions to simulate the mistrust between some groups of chaos. It was also introduced to avoid chaos armies that had units from several factions and work "too well". The penalties for having them close by can vary. In net epic if two demons that have animosity toward each others are close by (50cm) they "might" get real pissy and go at each other... ..as well as all their followers. It keeps the chaos commander on his toes when he uses mixed factions and gets worse if he combines several. It promotes chaos armies of one factions which is in keeping with the fluff. Not that "black crusades" are not possible, they are, but difficult to coordinate. As it should be. Primarch |

Nice one. Raises a nasty idea: The possibility of purchasing a "Supreme Commander" type who binds them together and stops the factional hatred penalities. Ie Abaddon or one of his high Warlord characters However, if he is taken out the factional hatreds emerge at twice the penalty/distance/whatever to simulate the supressed rivalries coming out at greater than usual strength. Fighting this, I'd be thinking Command and Control Warfare! |
