I guess I was only referring to the tournaments, rather than every Ozzie in Ozlandia.

I figured my question fell within the remit of 'Oz house rules', but sure, we can start a new thread if you like.

Thanks very much.

The relevant quotes have changed my mind on this topic and convinced me that the Ozzies are playing the rules as-written, and I have spent the last decade playing it according to a commonly accepted convention (or, "house rule", as it were).

Hurrah! We have a convert! Perhaps now us aussies can post a battle report and people might accept the data!

But just to clarify, there is nothing 'wrong' with any terrain houserules - the wierd and wonderful homemade creations will probably need to be individually houseruled to make it work smoothly

Aye. That would also be a great opportunity to ask about overall terrain density in different metas.

Wartrader, I nominate you to create this new thread and start discussion!

Will do, but it won't be for a few hours.

The tone of this post could quite easily be negatively interpreted.

Thanks for this thread Els, really helping to clear up some of the differences in metas. I'd echo Steve rather than Ginger in that there is usually a couple of pieces of terrain in the deployment area - the spaceship dilemma is do I go in the terrain which is the most likely spaceship target or go of terrain (aaaah the mind games).

I guess this discussion has highlighted some differences in various metas. I am curious to what other epic groups out there might use regarding various house rules if any?

Cheers

Mic

Winkey face makes most things better.

Sticky out tongue face may be better? :-p

Let's fight about who's correct!

Is it normally possible at tournaments with a higher strategy army to be able to deny your opponent area terrain in their DZ by choosing corners and picking accordingly? Or is DZ terrain normally placed centrally or symmetrically (and should it be)?

Folks, I was being sincere. I'm actually really positive about the feedback and positive discussion being generated here. Even if people have different interpretations of the rules, we are finding a lot of common ground and I'm even rethinking about how I play my own games.

Mic - just to say in London we, unsurprisingly, play the same conventions as epic UK so infinite height and area terrain.

I generally play the epic-UK infinite terrain convention here and think it makes sense for simplicity at tournaments, but if/when I get a gaming table at home sorted later in the year I plan to allow titans to see over certain small pieces of terrain.

I've played at both Australian and UK tournaments and don't think the varying terrain conventions have all that much effect.

I'd be interested to know at what point you start being able to see over terrain, so disregarding the restriction of only being able to see 10cm into area terrain. So Titans can potentially always do this, providing they are actually tall enough. Infantry, or anything really on hills? Leviathans? Knights? Super heavy tanks? Trygons? Popped up skimmers? It just seems that if you're going to play this, which actually seems a totally sensible way to play, applying it to *only* titans feels a bit arbitrary. Making hills actually useful is the big win with this approach for me. I do agree with Glyn though - provided both players will be using the same rules so I can't see how it would massively skew results either way.

Alf - I don't think it would skew results massively but it would have a bearing on how competitive certain units are. This is probably best seen in Scorpions and Overlords appearing to be very popular and competitive choices in Aussie tournaments whereas they're relatively uncommon in the UK. Again - not saying one is better or worse just different!
