Post subject:  Allocation of macro hits.

Bit of a querie came up at our recent game (hasnt been an issue for the last two years, so doubt it has huge impact).
The issue was where a unit with different types of weapons, including macro, fires at a mixed unit.
Say for example a space marine tactical company with land raiders. So three vehicles that are reinforced and 6 infantry, are fired at by Silver towers (who have two weapons, three AP/AT 4+ and a MW5+).
The FAQ details that the AP/AT can be split so effectively the towers could fire 6 Ap and 6AT, then roll to hit and allocate wounds accordingly. But when is it decided what the macro hits are allocated?
So say the towers put all 12 shots AP, and hits with 6 of these, the twoers also roll two macro hits. so one hit to each marine with the normal weapons and aves are made before allocating macro, so lets say 2 marines save.
Can the Chaos player then choose that the macros are anti tank and put them into teh land raiders? (and same question if there was a war engine?) or should the macros target AP / AT or warengine be declared before rolling to hit?

Thoughts are as always much apprciated.

Macro can only target in or out of cover, if there are no units in cover then it will hit the closest unit front to back, irrespective of them being INF, LV or AV

To resolve the shooting work out the AP and AT shots first, allocate hits and make saves you can also remove the dead models, the macro shots will then hit the closest remaining targets

From 2.2.7 Macro Weapons
Quote:
Allocating Hits:
If an attacking formation scores hits both with normal weapons and weapons with the macro-weapon ability, then the opposing player must allocate and make any saves for the normal hits first, and then allocate and make any saves for the macro-weapon hits. Hits from macro-weapons can only be applied to units that are in a position to be hit by a macro-weapon

From 3.2.1 War Engines
Quote:
If a formation includes both war engines and non-war engine units then an attacker must state whether any attacks he makes on the formation will be directed at the war engines or the other units in the formation. Attacks directed at the war engines can only be allocated against war engines if they hit, while attacks directed at other units may not be allocated to the war engines in the formation.
