Post subject:  Question regarding firing arcs and bonus engagement attacks.

So I have been asked the following question:
Quote:
So when doing FF or CC with Titans or WE for that matter, do we measure the range and line of sight from the weapon on the titan/WE?

I'm asking since most FF/CC titan weapons don't have a fire arc in their data sheet and most just add to the FF/CC (laser burner good example). I been playing they need line of sight... But pg 13 clearly states it would be in the data sheet.."Most weapons can be fired in any direction (i.e.,the unit does not have to be pointing at the target) however, in some cases, a weapon will be noted as having a limited weapon arc."

How do you play it?
I personally have never taken the firing arcs of weapons into account during engagements.
It would seem to me to complicate the process.

Thoughts?
Should we write an FAQ for this?

Yes, we take them into account. However as the WE is not usually pinned (by double its DC of units) there is no problem with the WE turning around.

If a cc weapon has a forward arc then it's a valid tactic to attack it in the back. It can't countercharge if already in base contact so can't turn round

Yeah if the assault weapon had an arc (I am not sure any do but lets go with the hypothetical here) sure then it would matter. There's a reason they don't have them however.

When this came up before it was assumed FF and CC never had arcs. Assaults being dynamic, flowing events it was assumed that turning and movement would take place (abstracted by the consolidation move and flying power fists).

Fire arcs are also only mentioned in the shooting section and, as far as I can remember, any arcs on CC/FF attacks where removed when the TP was put together.

That's pretty much how I thought it was.

but it's not just the assault, it's for supporting fire as well

And there are one or two titans with arcs on their melee weaponry.
To my mind, the question is really whether rotating on the spot counts as a counter-charge or not, and when this is permitted or prohibited.
