Post subject:  rules q, disrupt + normal shots

Hi!

In my recent game I had a shooting attack with disrupt and standard weapons, and both type were hit. For simplicity lets say 1 disrupt hit and 1 standard.
My opponent rolled two armour saves, preserving one unit and losing the other. Now he placed two blast markers, one for casualty and one for coming under fire. He did not roll seperately.

I think a separation is required here since if he saves the disrupted unit and loses the other against the standard, that would result an extra blast marker.

There's the question, which way is valid?

Yes disrupt hits should be rolled and recorded separately

Yes hits are specific, your opponent has to allocate them before he rolls to save, he can't decide which hits went where after the fact.

However bear in mind that, technically, the rules only describe the order of allocating hits separately for MW - for everything else it is up to the defending player. So your opponent can sometimes allocate in such a way that a disrupt ability is less effective, for example by allocating the disrupt onto a unit with no save and a normal hit onto a unit with 4+ RA. In some cases it can even be prevented from having an effect altogether, eg allocating an ignore cover hit on a unit out of cover and normal hit on units in cover - somehow that seems less acceptable but is equally valid.

This is a long standing issue and is something you would have to discuss in the 5 minute warm up, but personally we play that abilities should be allocated so that they can be used, and anything else is up to the defender. This is what I do when allocating against my own units in tournaments as it seems fairer to my opponent. I think most players in casual play would work to a similar principle.

There are also some very strange mechanics eg when disrupt interacts with grots (who would get a BM if they survive but not if they die).
