Post subject:  Bombers and AA values

Hi everybody,

this is my first post on TC, so son't blame me if anyone have broght this up already...
In my defence I can say that there are no FAQs about this in the various rulesets.

The point is: why do bombers have AA values?
It is clearly stated, both in GW and Netepic versions of the aerospace operations rules, that bombers may not carry out an interception or CAP action that are, it seems to me, the only allowed circumstances of aircraft-aircraft shooting.

A friend suggested that bombers that may land (eg. Thunderhawks, Landas) could use their AA as a flak attack when they are on the ground, but it seems more an expedient rather than something that was actually planned by game developers.

Bombers can fire defensive AA at aircraft intercepting them (the bomber fires before the interceptor) in the case of it being a transport craft it can fire AA from the ground also

In fact a bomber can fire AA at any enemy aircraft that finishes it's movement within range/arc

Hence the fun list Chris at our club played with 4 ork landas who come in assault stuff and provide the landed troops with a very decent aa bubble.

Ok, that is clear now.
Re-reading now the FAQ about the order of events, I must admit that this topic was covered.
However, the syntax is a bit convolute, and it is the only paragraph in wich it is stated that this "catfight" occurs.

I would suggest (for future editions of the tournament pack) to clearly state that during intercepitons and CAPs the opposing aircraft may answer fire (and that its AA may be used during the exit phase of the enemy).
- edit - : it could be done as in Nealhunt's alternate aerospace rules, where he explicitly states that an aircraft may use AA attacks defensively.

Very well, thank you so much!

Just remember that a landed aircraft can only fire AA during disengagement if it remains landed (as all disengagement occurs simultaneously and planes do not fire on each other during disengagement)

Even clearer now, thank you!

The aerospace rule do have lots of gotchas in there. For example CAP continuing from turn to turn: its not exactly like overwatch.

My least favourite gotcha:
You put your TBs on CAP.
The enemy put their TBs on CAP.
You bring in your TH/LC/TB/whatever.
The enemy TBs activate CAP and come attack your TH/LC/TB/whatever.
Your TBs can't CAP a CAP so they kinda ...sit out the turn back at base.

Obviously we adjust and get used to the rule, and next time don't CAP and instead wait to intercept, but it's a gotcha the first time.
