I still think as few rules changes as possible should be implemented. Just stats and army lists really.

On that note - do anyone have a link to the ww3 version of E:A mentioned earlier in the tread? They seemed excellent but I sould not find the rules in the blogs that were linked.

Markconz?

I think so. It seems to be a very flexible system, and balancing can really make it at any level you want.

Thanks for all the replies, some very interesting ideas/thoughts and Jervis' range guide is very handy.

Regarding CC and Tanks, would it not be easiest to simply state that AV's do not get an Armour Save in CC unless they have Reinforced Armour (limited to a few late war tanks), this makes CC suitably deadly for AV's and something they would want to avoid.

No one seems to have mentioned a ranged weapon stat for infantry, would you not think that infantry should have a ranged weapon of say 15cm AP5+ to represent MG's/ISW? Again some late war units could have x2 AP5+ to represent those units that had a larger number of MG's per squad/platoon.

Not sure if I agree with the 30cm range, it just seems a bit much, and I suppose it depends if we talking effective range or max. range, but using Jervis' guide 15cm = 250m which I think represents the effective range of an MG, IMO

Agreed, so far then im thinking a standard infantry platoon would be something like:

Inf 15cm - 5+ 5+ LMG 15cm AP5+

and a HMG support platoon:

Inf 15cm - 5+ 6+ HMG 30cm AP5+
(reduced the CC to factor in less troops, and tripod mounted MG's are not the best thing for CC)

Mortar platoons would have indirect fire and BP's the bigger the mortar the more BP's, same with Arty just simply better range and more BP's

AT platoons
Inf 10cm - 6+ 6+ ATG 30cm AP5+/AT5+
(reduce or increase range and AT value depending on gun)

Carriers/halftracks - in effect as rhinos, maybe tweak the stats to add an LMG

Tanks would need statting up, though I think I would stat them in classes of light/medium/hvy/ super hvy for ease rather than looking into the capabilities of each type, and for now I'd go with the no save in CC for AV unless RA

Air, its not something I use regularly so not overly sure if this would stand as is or need amending, a few plane types would need statting up though

better inf ie para's/airborne some SS etc would have better FF & CC, some would have multiple ranged shots

Need to think about formations, though at a platoon per stand, battalion looks about right, Initiative as IG in the main with maybe some exceptions such as armies wholly made up of elites - para battalions for eg.

im just rambling now :-[ so will see what you guys can add
