I've been trying to accumulate the models for a couple of Space Marine lists, and that includes some basic airpower in the form of Thunderbolts and Marauder bombers.

The original Epic metal aircraft are quite small, and the models seem quite basic in terms of details. I have some newer thunderbolts in FW scale but they seem... huge - bigger in size than they should be compared with the Thunderhawk.

In addition, I'm thinking, if I trade for some Marauder Bombers, will they be even bigger, how will they look and are they worth spending money on trying to track down people who will part with them for money?

Should I retreat back to the readily available old metal ones on eBay for the sake of simplicity?

Basically - it depends! Opinions go both ways on this - and often if you ask the same person you might get two different answers over time! Personally, I like the forgeworld models, aircraft are just big!

This might help or just add to the confusion:

The FW marauders are massive. They are also awesome sculpts.

I prefer FW scale myself they just look better and are really nice models, SG planes have always been to small IMHO.

But saying that, to each his own.

I've been eyeing Marauders on eBay but I don't think a pair would go for less than £70 so that might end up being a moot point. =-P

As an alternative, Troublemaker Games have their Lancastrian Bomber for £18. It's a wonderful model, and very nicely fits as a Marauder proxy :)
