Hi folks, Wandering if act of forcing FF by skimmer in assault can trigger overwatch (from other formation). Has anyone had that situation in game? |

No. OW is only triggered by an enemy formation making a "move". While this definition includes Withdrawal and Consolidation "moves", lifting off the ground to get out of reach of CC weapons is not a "move". |

It doesn't include consolidation moves,Ginger. |

How so? Consolidation is deemed a "free Bonus move" and thus was always capable of triggering OW as far as I was aware. The same is true for Withdrawal "moves", and given both can be of considerable length (Eldar) both have always been able to trigger OW. I might add that as these moves occur without activation in 1.7, the FAQ may need amending. |

Nevermind, was thinking counter-charges. Too many "c" moves. |

So lifting off to force firefight is not 'popping up'? Unfortunately it is not stated precisely in rules:/ -seems strange because for eg. charge/countercharge over impassable terrain, as long as before consolidation move skimmer is 5cm from open ground does count as popping up (skimmer pops down at the conclusion of action- end of consolidation move here). Relevant rules: 2.1.13, paragraphs 3,4 and 6. |

No, "lifting off" is not the same as "popping up" - these are terms that are hard to define in English, so have always caused difficulties. (Dave - this might be worth a FAQ ![]() "Popping up" is a term that is declared after a successfull activation at the start of movement. The Skimmers are considered to have risen high off the ground - possibly several hundred metres - allowing them to clear high obstacles like hills, trees, buildings etc. It is in effect a short flight during which the Skimmers do not touch down until the end of their action. (Note, this is still much lower than aircraft fly.) "lifting off" is a much more limited term suggesting the Skimmers rising a few meters off the ground to get out of CC range, and this effect only lasts for the duration of the assault. As such "lifting off" and any subsequent movement is subject to terrain rules. The distinction between these terms is important during an assault.

Thanks Ginger & Dave. It sounds clearer but as mentioned it's worth including it in FAQ, if only to keep enjoyment in friendly games, bare tournament struggles ![]() |
