Linked to this - if a WE transport is destroyed by a mix of AT and WE fire, which counts for resolving hits against the transported troops?

I'd assume the MW hits. Since they are applied after the regular AT hits.

EDIT: A follow up question would be how to handle a WE destroyed by a mix of MW and TK

I split this off as it's a separate question that I think could use some debate.

A WE can take any number of different kinds of hits and be destroyed. What happens to the stuff inside if it's not destroyed by a crit?

E.g., a 3DC WE takes 3 different hits Ignore Cover, Macro-weapon and Lance. It was carrying a unit. Does that unit get it's save? A 6+ cover save? Nothing at all?

I am not sure that there is a problem here.
- Ignore cover does not apply to the contents of a transport as they don't get a cover save under these conditions
- If there are a mix of hit types, these are applied in a strict order, so the contents test against the hit that actually destroyed the transport.
Note this does kick out an anomaly where it is actually better to lose the transport to 'normal' hits as more of the contents will survive at which point the MW and TK hits will only kill single units rather than the entire formation. ;)

The Macro Weapon rule says that transported units don't get their save if the transport is destroyed by a Macro Weapon. So I would apply the effects of the hit that destroyed it. I don't really see any other way of doing it. Yes this means that it is better for the infantry if a normal hit kills their transport first, but the MW would then of course be allocated to the next unit*. Bear in mind though that when it comes to hit allocation, the only separation is between MW and everything else. Allocate the normal hits, make the saves, then allocate the MW against the remaining units.

The rules don't say anything about other special weapon effects (e.g. Lance) but as a player I would probably apply the same principle (i.e. if the hit that destroyed the transport was Lance, I'd apply Lance to the transported infantry). However, the difference between Lance and MW (unless you house rule it differently) is that Lance hits are allocated together with normal hits - so the defending player might have the opportunity to allocate Lance and non-Lance hits in a specific order hits to avoid them affecting transported infantry.

By the way, Ignore Cover does matter Ginger, because 1.7.5 says transported units that don't have a save get a 6+ cover save.

* The next question is, if a transport is destroyed by normal fire but the infantry survive, are the infantry valid targets for the MW hits? If so, it could stop the MW being allocated to another transport, but if not, it could result in the MW being wasted. I believe this came up recently in its own question, didn't it?
