In a game today a formation of Crisis Suits shot a Harridan. The Harridan had a Gargoyle in it's formation and the Gargoyle was the other side of it, out of sight due to the Harridan being a WE.

Regular fire finished off the already wounded Harridan. There were MW hits then that we applied to the Gargoyle, killing it too. We weren't sure if they should have been allowed to hit the Gargoyle or not as it wasn't in LOS originally, only coming visible by the MW allocation stage.

What was the right to play this?

You should have already stated whether to fire at the WE or the non WE unit (out of LOS should have meant you cannot target the non WE unit anyway).

from 3.2.1
Quote:
If a formation includes both war engines and non-war engine
units then an attacker must state whether any attacks he makes
on the formation will be directed at the war engines or the other
units in the formation. Attacks directed at the war engines can
only be allocated against war engines if they hit, while attacks
directed at other units may not be allocated to the war engines in
the formation

Doh! Ok, that's obvious now - thanks for that. I think we're both a bit out of practice!

Ah yes, of course. Thanks Dptdexys!

I knew about needing to separately target WE and non-WE previously but forgot in the heat of battle. The Gargoyle unit should have survived then, good to know, though it wouldn't have made any difference to the outcome this time.
