A few quick rules questions for some of the more experienced players on here. 1) When a unit is broken, if it decides to make a withdrawel it must move more than 15cm away from opposing units. An opponent stated that logically, this meant that if the unit decides NOT to move it isn't destroyed if it remains in 15cm. Is this correct? I can see his point, but I thought the rule represented how vulnerable units are when broken. Also seems to take away some of the point of fearless. 2) Does the whole of a units base have to be-able to 'see' (i.e beable to draw a line to) an enemy unit in order for it to be visible with no cover save modifier, if no firing arcs are specified? Again, my opponent argued this was the case with my Warhound and his 50mm base in a game. Not being a rules expert, if you could let me know, and if possible with page references/quotes, that'd be great! Just be nice for both of us to be clear in the future. Cheers ![]() |

That's why non-fearless flyers die when they lose an assault (no move) and why surrounding an enemy formation, something I've accomplished more than once in a marine pod drop, can be killer. Again, my opponent argued this was the case with my Warhound and his 50mm base in a game. That's an item to cover in the 5minute warmup. There's no right or wrong way, just whatever the game is going to be played with. Locally we do everything from nearest edge of the base to the nearest edge of the target base. This has the nice effect of removing most chances / claims of modeling for advantage. Of course, we all locally base vehicles and infantry so it kinda fits. Really just agree before the game and then consistently apply it. Some other common items to agree on: -LOS for terrain. For instance, many people use "it's an infinitely tall hill" so not get bogged down into terrain effect discussions. Others prefer "true los". -What you will use for demarcation of terrain. As we base our terrain as well, it's less of a question with our stuff but all groups/tables differ -What constitutes being, "in terrain"? Is it enough to be touching it or does the entire unit have to be inside it? Can it be partially inside it to claim cover and if so, any specific amount. Again, as we base everything we use any part touching counts as In Terrain for us which removed modeling for dis/advantage. -Aircraft barging. Yes or No? Suggestion when any of the above cannot be agreed: flip for it. |

1) Although it's not stated quite that way, the withdrawing formation effectively moves twice even if those moves are 0cm. Point your opponent towards the last paragraph of 1.13.3: 'Units with a speed of 0cm obviously cannot move when making a withdrawal, so are destroyed if there are any enemy units within 15cm at the point they become broken.' 2) ![]() |

'Units with a speed of 0cm obviously cannot move when making a withdrawal, so are destroyed if there are any enemy units within 15cm at the point they become broken.' Thanks for quick replies! This makes it nice and clear. Think we will go with the 'whole of the base has to be able to draw a line' as it does at least make it very clear when a unit gets the cover save or not. And at least in Epic you can always choose to shoot only those models who aren't in cover if necessary. |
