Post subject:  Minigeddon for starter?

Hi guys,

Those who know me know that I do a lot of painting and little or no gaming and I would like to redress the balance. I think Minigeddon rules may be my way in. I've also realised that the sheets of card (picture framing card) I use for modelling make a near perfect gaming board (when you put two side by side).

I can knock out completed armies quicker and therefore paint more variety and still work towards those larger armies in the process.

What are people's experience of Minigeddon?

Good tool for learning the game, quick to play, I think it needs further tweaks as a game as currently Eldar are much too good (being able to triple-retain in an army with 3-4 activations is just too powerful imo)

Good to know, I don't plan any Eldar armies just yet; mainly marines, guard and Orks.

I've picked up my wargames' table (card), £10 for a portable, lightweight wargames table.

Check with MrGonzo and Carlos, both on these forums and resident in London - they have extensive experience of Minigeddon and can probably advise the special rules. I cannot comment on the triple retain, but I know titans and airpower are not available generally, and the Avatar is not available to the Eldar.

I agree that it is generally a good tool to learn the basics of the game, but limited in a number of ways.

I've pulled together some Minigeddon lists all the armies I can currently field (assembly and painting required in some cases). Please take a look and note any glaring mistakes. Mini availability played a big role in their creation but I tried to make them competitively similar (as they will be up against each other).

Here's the fix for the first two:

Salamander 1K Minigeddon List
Salamanders (NetEA Tournament Pack 2013)
DEVASTATOR [350]
4 Devastator units, 2 Salamander Devastator units, Rhinos
LAND RAIDER [375] (BTS)
2 Land Raider
2 Land Raider Helios
WARHOUND [275]
1 Warhound Class Titan

Space Wolves 1K, Minigeddon List
Space Wolves (NetEA Army Compendium v20120208)
GREAT COMPANY [325] (BTS)
6 Grey Hunters, Battle Leader, Rhinos, Razorback
LAND SPEEDERS [200]
5 Land Speeder
SKYCLAWS ASSAULT PACK [225]
6 Sky Claws
PREDATORS [250]
4 Predator Annihilator

As for the steel legion, I don't see a lot of movement on this due to mini availability or list restrictions, I'll take the hit.

I like the Ork list.

When I want to run some games for beginners, I just prepare two 1500 points lists with no WE or Aircraft. I don't see the point of Minigeddon.

Here's a quick pic of my Minigeddon board. It's made from two sheets of picture framing board, edged with reinforcing tape and 'hinges'. I didn't need to cut it as it was only about 4cms off the Minigeddon size. For those of you in the UK, you can get these from Hobbycraft. There also great for basing scenary and be idling stuff. Just don't cut up your wargames table :D

You can do that as well, but Minigeddon wasn't designed as a teaching tool, just one that can also do that . I think that Minigeddon is a simple and necessary adaptation to make the game playable at small points levels and have a nice fast play experience in a small sized battle. 1500 pts in a full sized 6 by 4 table tends to make going for the objectives easier, no?[/quote]

I really meant: when I want to run small games (for beginners or not)... and we limit the table space to 4 by 4.
