Post subject:  taking casualties in an assault

hey guys,

question came up in a game last night:

when working out wound allocation (regular troops, vehicles, not for war engines) during an assault, the rules say you do like you would for shooting, allocating one wound per model. Does that mean you have to allocate the wounds starting from the front of the unit? or can you allocate them to any model in the assault (i.e. within 15cms).

thanks

so...for expendable units like grotz, they need to be in base contact in an assault to be removed as casualties?

The reason i ask this is i want my good fighters in CC (nobz for example) but take the wounds on my grotz (who i don't want in CC coz they suck).

As Hena says, hits are allocated from front to rear starting with those units nearest the enemy. In order to be able to reduce the number of hits allocated to your Nobs when they are in B-B with the enemy, you need to ensure that there are other units that are also in B-B. Grots may not be able to hit much, but do not count towards casualties (which is even better).

Grots suck in CC but that's not important, you'll want them in CC as well as their main use is to be removed as casualties in an assault without counting towards the assault resolution.
